As kids, we often wished to see ourselves in the roles that exist in the fictional world around us whether it is in the books we read or the shows and movies we watch. As a kid, I wished to be in the shoes of various characters that existed in the fictional world around me. Some of those roles included that of the sisters in the Powerpuff girls, and in the shoes of the main character in the book series Cam Jensen. The Powerpuff girls showed me that girls are capable of doing what they want and can be seen as heroes, while the Cam Jensen series taught me that a girl could be skilled and create change. As we grow older, we often indulge in various shows that allow us to fantasize the roles we see ourselves in. Seeing ourselves in the shoes of others reflects on the way we are, the way we think, believe and aspire to become. These characters allow us to learn and grow; often we can escape from our daily lives.
Therefore, if we ask ourselves, regardless of our age, which fictional character do we wish to see ourselves in, who would that be? Would it be someone good or bad? Cartoon or real? In a realistic or fictional storyline? Also, we should ask ourselves, why we find ourselves in that role. These questions would allow us to go back to our life and
For myself, I see myself in the shoes of Bonnie Bennett from the Vampire Diaries. As a young adult who has binged watched each minute of each episode, I have learned to love Bonnie Bennett’s role. Actress Kat Grahams portrayal of Bonnie Bennet has allowed me to find myself admiring the character and almost wishing to step into her roles.
Although the Vampire Diaries brought a new turn to the vampire stories, and each character in the show brought something we could all relate to, Bonnie's character stood out the most. What drew me to Bonnie was some of the characteristics she had, she was
1) A Loyal Friend
2) Compassionate
3) Patient
4) Powerful
5) Selfless
6) Intelligent
7) And Witty
As a witch, she was bad**s. She inspired the rest of us to believe in ourselves when things got bad. She taught us that when a family isn’t around, our friends will be. She showed us that if we loved that we should love hard because nothing is permanent. If I had to pick a friend, I would want Bonnie, because of she when she saved her best friend Elena countless times, she was nothing but loyal. She was a quick learner, she adapted to many new things, like being a witch, being dead, and being an anchor between the living and dead. She showed us that no matter what, we have to keep going.
Bonnie Bennett shows the audience that despite her fictional powers, she’s human. By admiring the role of Bonnie Bennett, the most significant lesson I have learned is that no matter what obstacle occurs, loss, failure, or any hardship never give up on life and accomplish everything you are capable of.
Thus, we must admire the fictional world around us. It teaches us, give us an escape, and allows us to become better beings.
