I'm Still Proud To Be An American

But I feel like a dying breed.

This day in age, it seems that being a proud American is not the norm. You log into social media and see people threatening to leave our country and you see people who just don't seem like they want to be a part of the greatest country on Earth. I will never be one of those people.

I feel like a dying breed: an American who is proud as can be. I see and hear of so many people who talk trash about our nation and the flag that represents our nation. I'm constantly surrounded by people who seem as though they could leave our country tomorrow and never feel remorse. I could never do that. No matter where I go, no matter who I come in contact with, I will always be a Patriot.

I still believe in the very things that our nation was built upon.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The Declaration of Independence

However, no matter how far from that we get in the present, I still believe that we will find our way back to them.

You can attempt to belittle me and pick apart my pride. You can say that America was never great and that we will never see greatness. You can call me all the names you want, but no matter what, my patriotism will never diminish.

Maybe I am just a stereotypical military brat who was raised under the flying colors of red, white and blue. Maybe my patriotism did stem from my family, our principles and the great state of New Hampshire, but that doesn't mean my patriotism isn't as real and true as our flag. My upbringing and family influence does not mean that I cannot make my decision on being a patriot my own.

In your eyes, America may not seem like much. In your eyes, American may not be great. In your eyes, you may not like living here. But for me, America will always be home and it will always be great.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
