Feminism is becoming a more discussed topic lately, especially among female millennials. Everywhere I look, someone is talking about whether or not they are a feminist. It's almost looked down upon to say that as a female one is not a feminist in today's society. While I do not identify as a feminist, I do see issues that need to be addressed. I am not a feminist, but...
Here are a few things I have a problem with:
The need to keep boys from temptation is more important than the education of those girls forced to miss school because showing their shoulders or legs may be too distracting to their male counterparts.
Society screams "don't get raped" instead of "don't rape."
"No" means keep asking until she finally gives in.
It is unsafe for a female to walk alone after dark.
Pepper spray is a gift that is given yearly.
A woman's clothes are believed to say more about her consent than her mouth does.
It is easier to say "I have a boyfriend" than telling a guy "no" because guys respect other guys more than they do females.
I have had to tell a guy that my friend is my girlfriend because he couldn't respect my decision to reject his advances.
The first question a girl is asked after she is raped is "what were you wearing?"
The U.S. National men's soccer team makes $5,000 when they lose a match. When the U.S. National women's soccer team loses a match, they don't make anything.
Women's bodies have become so sexualized that it is viewed as shameful for a mother to breastfeed her child in public even if she is covered up.
The sexual representation of women in the media...for example, Hardee's commercials.
Being beautiful is considered to be more enviable than being successful.
The fact that I even have to say "I'm not a feminist, but..."
