Bernie Sanders, the 74-year-old Vermont Senator socialist who has taken college campuses by storm. Bernie Sanders leads among Millennial voters by almost 58 points. I am a Millennial, and I am not feeling the Bern.
What I feel from Bernie Sanders is the "burn" of his proposals. His high tax policies and too good to be true ideas. I feel like Bernie could use a course in economics. In order to have universal healthcare and free college tuition, we as a country would need a lot of money. And with a deficit of 18 trillion dollars, we don't have the money. His solution? Tax the rich. My problem with this is, when you tax the rich, they take their companies and leave the U.S. Who are you going to tax now, Bernie? Me. And all the other Millennials who will be hard-working college graduates.
In every speech Bernie gives, there is always something wrong. Watch one of his speeches—nothing is positive. Call me old-fashioned, but every time I hear the national anthem, I swell with pride. My country is not that bad, Bernie.
Donald Trump. A New York real estate developer worth millions of dollars. He is currently the leading candidate for the Republican nomination. As a Millennial, I am also not feeling Donald Trump.
Anybody who uses name-calling and degradation and then declares "victory" is not the man I want for President. A man who has no sense of reality (Mexico isn't building the wall) or sense of humility. If Donald Trump had specific policy proposals, I might think about voting for him. But I can't form an opinion of vague generalities followed by an insult aimed at a competitor.
The main reason I don't think I could vote for Donald Trump is that he, it would seem, didn't pass third-grade spelling. "Honer" for honor. "Chocker" for choker. "Leightweight" for lightweight. I'm sorry, but a man who doesn't even use auto-correct or spellcheck shouldn't be President.
The Office of President is sacred. There is a reason only 44 men have served as President in our history. And, as a Millennial, I just don't think Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump should become number 45.
