My older brother,

There are so many things in my life that I’m lucky to have, but having an older one is close to the top of the list. You are my built in bodyguard, friend and role model. You have kept me under your wing since I was born and you will keep me there no matter what. You pick on me, I try to pick back, we laugh and we fight. People will come in and out of our lives but you will always be my brother and I am so thankful for that.

You may not know this, but I have looked up to you since such a young age. You were my wiser and older cooler brother and I wanted to be like you. You are part of the reason I am who I am today. You are the reason I got involved in things that have greatly impacted my life and it gave me another connection to my awesome older brother. By watching you, I have learned from your many mistakes, but you have helped me learn from mine as well. You have taught me to find the one thing you believe in and follow it with everything you have. You have taught me that you can have fun in even the simplest moments. You have shown me how amazing deep friendships are and you have shown me the kind of people I want to surround myself with. With every new chapter in your life, not only do you learn something, but so do I.

I have so many reasons to thank you. Thank you for standing up to me when I get pushed down and spit in the face. Thank you for believing in me and encouraging me, and thank you for always being in my corner. Thank you for being there to intimidate boys and enforce my respect from them. Thank you for helping me see the kind of man I want to marry one day and being a role model for that. Thank you for the traditional older brother torment, because it has taught me to be tough and to stand up for myself. Thank you for the long life talks we have and your input and advise on my life, because those moments mean more to me than you realize.

I pity those who don’t get the chance to have an older brother, because they are missing out on so much. I am so lucky to be able to have you as m brother. We have been through everything together, and I wouldn’t change any of it.
