Life Is Great Because I'm A Dog Person

They're squishy, lovable, and 100 percent better than cats.

Life Is Great Because I'm A Dog Person

In this generation of 20-something’s, cats are all the rage. This idealized fantasy of becoming an old cat lady is something that I think everyone has seen some college-aged girl talk about. Yet, I’m a little different. I am 100 percent a dog person.

Now look, don’t get me wrong — cats are super cool. They are sassy, classy and typically just as unamused by humans as I am. But dogs, they are just so much cooler. They’re like that kid in elementary school who could hang upside-down on the monkey bars or jump off the swing at it’s highest point. Dogs rock.

Dogs love you no matter what. You could be in the middle of a three day Netflix binge, eating doughnuts, not showered and probably have some dried drool on your cheek, and your dog will still think you are the greatest person alive. That kind of unconditional love would never come from a cat. Cats don’t even want you to touch them, much less come to you for love.

Adventures with dogs are awesome. Can you go hiking with a cat? No. Can you take a cat to the “cat park?" No. Can your cat play fetch? I doubt it. So yes, having a dog means that you never have to go on an adventure alone. Dogs are always down for a day out in the sun, and who doesn’t love a nice day outside?

Dog kisses are so much better than kitty rubs. Yes, it’s very cute when your cat comes up to you and rubs their head on your shoulder while you’re watching TV, but that is purely just for attention. You come home from work and your dog acts like you died and came back from the grave. Dogs will always treat you like you are the most important, amazing and beautiful person in the world. Who doesn’t love to feel loved? If you aren’t feeling loved enough, get a dog and I promise that’ll change soon.

Dogs can be used to help with so many disabilities. People of all ages rely on their dogs to survive. They aid in services for PTSD, depression, or even sniff out your seizures (you heard me right, they can sense your seizures). Dogs have the ability to be trained to save lives, and that's just crazy impressive. Think about it — only a select group of humans in the world can save lives, but basically any dog can be trained to save lives. That's so cool.

Ultimately, dogs are awesome and they will never fail to make your life brighter. Having a dog in your life is knowing that you always have a best friend. Don't get me wrong, cat's can be cool, but dogs will always win in my book.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
