I'm A Democrat, But...

Politics do have a gray area.

There's a lot of stereotype with political parties these days, but I, like many other Democrats, actually go against a lot of them. Times change and not everyone fits into the traditional mold of the Democratic party. Believe what you want, and don't think you have to be a certain way to be in a political party.

1. I'm extremely pro-guns.

My father was in the military, so I grew up with guns. I believe it’s the best form of house security you can have, and with proper training, they are actually very safe. My brother and I were both very young when we were first exposed to guns, and we have never had an accident.

2. I don’t care about marijuana legalization.

Sure, it has medicinal purposes, but I don’t really care if it’s legalized or not. I’m not pro-marijuana or anti-marijuana, I’m just kind of neutral, like the Swiss.

3. I don’t support Hillary Clinton.

Yes, I’m a woman, but I’m not voting for Hillary. Too many people are voting for her just because of her gender. Her agenda is dysfunctional and her morals are vague. Next candidate, please.

4. Some of my best friends are Republican.

I love having conservative friends, because they challenge my beliefs. It may be because I’m an argumentative person, but I love a good debate. It strengthens up the good ol' brain.

5. I go to a Christian university, and I love it.

My college is perfect for me. I am, in fact, a Christian. Everyone is so loving, accepting, and friendly here. The university isn’t oppressing at all, and there’s actually a Young Democrats club here.

6. I believe in earning what you work for.

Maybe this comes from being raised by a former soldier, but I support working for what you want. I don’t want government handouts, but I understand that some people genuinely need them until they are able to get back on their feet.

7. I’m not Communist.

There’s this crazy belief that Democrats are Communists. Excuse me, but what? People deserve what they work for, but I also believe that the rich shouldn’t get the tax breaks they currently are receiving.

8. I’m pro-life.

Abortion is a touchy subject, so I’m not going to stay on the topic long. I do believe, however, there are certain circumstances where it is acceptable.

9. I’m also a Creationist.

Most Democrats are pro-evolution, but I believe God created the universe. This is probably one of the few subjects I’m willing to fight (not actually physical) over. It’s something close to my heart, and I don’t take it lightly.

10. I’m not an entitled millennial.

This goes back to number six; work for what you want. It’s that simple.

11. I’m not a minority.

I’m a white female in a middle-income family. The majority of Democrats are of a minority, so I feel like people almost are shocked when I say I’m a Democrat. It’s actually kind of funny.

12. I love America.

I have an American flag onesie. I don’t think you can get much more patriotic than that.

So with all of this being said, political parties aren’t always black and white. Don’t just assume that when someone is a Democrat that they share all the same beliefs as others. Believe what you wanna believe, and don't get caught up with labels.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
