Anyone who knows of Harry Potter also knows of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's the setting for the majority of the Harry Potter series as well as the main magic school located in the United Kingdom. And up until recently, it was the only wizarding school fans knew about (other than the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and the Durmstrang Institute--both of which are mentioned in the books). But now, J.K. Rowling has released short writings about other large wizarding schools around the world.

The major school in America is called Ilvermorny, and the history is not the only information that's been released about this school. Rowling has also shared the four houses belonging to Ilvermorny. They are the Wampus, the Thunderbird, the Horned Serpent, and the Pukwudgie, each named after a favorite magical creature of the school's founders. These houses are much like the ones of Hogwarts (Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw), but instead of students being grouped according to their dominant personality traits, Ilvermorny students are placed into the house whose creature represents the strongest part (body, mind, heart, or soul) of a witch or wizard.

Wampus

Webster Boot named this house after a magical, panther-like beast found in south-eastern United States. This house represents the body of a witch or wizard and favors warriors at heart. In that way, this house closely resembles Gryffindor.

Horned Serpent

Named by the true founder of Ilvermorny, Isolt Sayre, this house represents a magical serpent depicted as having a jewel atop its head. This creature is known for its intelligence, so in turn, the house is seen to represent the mind of a wizard or witch. This house tends to favor scholars. It's kind of the Ravenclaw equivalent.

Pukwudgie

This house was created by James Steward and named after a short, gray-faced, big-eared beast that is known for playing tricks on humans. This house represents a witch or wizard's heart and favors the healers. Fans see this house mostly correlating to Hufflepuff.

Thunderbird

Webster's brother, Chadwick Boot, dedicated this house to the mythical bird whose wings create storms as it flies. This house represents the witch or wizard's soul. Also, it favors adventurers. Because it is the fourth and final house of Ilvermorny, it can be seen as the Slytherin equivalent. Fun fact, J.K. Rowling is a Thunderbird herself.

That is a quick synopsis of the four Ilvermorny houses. There is a new sorting quiz on Pottermore for those who'd like to discover to which of these new houses they belong.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
