Some people don't believe in heroes, but they haven't met my dad.
A dad is a father, a guardian, a protector, and someone who never stops caring. A dad is a teacher, a mentor, and a coach. A sports fanatic, a bad joke teller, a human bank, and a part-time police. A dad is everything; but most importantly, a dad is a person, a person who is loving and knows what you have on your mind.
Dads set the standards for which girls will judge all men; as it is not a dad's job to teach his daughter how to be a lady, but rather teach her how a lady should be treated. No matter how annoying my dad can be, he is and will forever be my best friend.
Dad, no matter where I go in life, who I get married to, and how much time I spend with guys, you will always be my number one man. So much of me is made of what I've learned and continue to learn from you. You listen to me, defend me, and love me unconditionally irrevocably. You gave me the greatest gift anyone could ever receive: you believe in me, no matter the endeavor.
You taught me to stand up for what I believe in; I have seen you go out of your way to help others constantly, which is truly an admirable act. You taught me to shoot for the stars and follow my dreams. I admire your determination, and it is something that I hope to have as an adult one day. I may not be full of self-confidence, but I know a simple five minute conversation with you can brighten my day in an instant.
Throughout my life you have been there for me in countless ways, and I will never outgrow the feeling I get knowing you are on my side. I know if I ever need a hand or a push in the right direction you will always be there for me, just like when I was little.
You taught me to value myself, and that I am uncommonly beautiful and the most precious thing in your life. You have taught me to be independent, courageous, and fearless. You give me a sense of adventure, and make me feel secure and confident. So thank you, for giving me the confidence to reach for the stars.
One of the most important things a dad can do for his daughter is to love her mother, and it fills me with complete and utter happiness knowing how much you love mom and that you would do anything for her. I truly hope that one day, with your permission of course, I find someone with half of the determination, strength, and values that you possess.
You were the first man in my life and my first hero. I know you've loved me for as long as I've lived, but I've loved you my whole life. Now that I'm older, I have a better sense of everything that you did for me when I was growing up. You worked so hard, and continue to work hard so I am healthy and happy and have everything that I need.
I don't think that I will ever be able to thank you enough for the 18 years filled with love, laughter, and occasional headaches, but know today that I am truly grateful and honored to call you my dad. Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad, and I am so lucky to call you mine. So thank you, for listening, caring, and loving, but especially for being you; and don't forget, I'll always be your little girl.
