IPSY is a monthly subscription of $10 (and free shipping!!) wherein the subscriber receives five handpicked beauty items especially designed for their taste. The items arrive all bundled up inside a cute and quality makeup bag of the month that is rightfully named a Glam Bag. Sounds fancy, right?
Every Glam Bag is different and the subscriber can tailor their items to their taste. Every subscriber has a beauty profile that IPSY takes into consideration when building the monthly bag of goodies. The subscriber profile includes hair, eye, and skin color. These are all things that are extremely important to the company, as they want everything to be just the right shade for each person. (Spoiler: I have never gotten something that is an incorrect color - and I have gotten everything from powders to concealers.)
The IPSY Beauty Profile also asks for the subscriber's preferences to help narrow the window of products and give them what they will enjoy the most. Some of the things included are:
- How comfortable are you with makeup?
- Which of these makeup products do you love the most?
- What shades do you prefer?
- How would you describe your skin concerns?
And yes, they actually do take into consideration the answers and preferences listed in the Beauty Profile when constructing the Glam Bag. It may seem like a shot in the dark, but rest assured, IPSY ensures subscribers always end up with at least a few geniunely enjoyable products. For only $10, a bag of quality beauty products is nothing to turn a nose at. At the very least, there's a cute, reusable, zippered bag each month.
Personally, I was extremely hesitant about the whole thing. Would IPSY send me junk I could use or wasn't interested in. What would happen if the products were things I just didn't like? How big were the products? Would the stuff get broken? Would I even get it? A friend of mine assured me that IPSY was a legit company and something fun to do. So, I dutifully typed in my credit card number, filled out my Beauty Profile, and waited for the shiny, pink bubble-envelope to arrive in the mail.
I'm not being dramatic, but I honestly would die for some of the products I got in that Glam Bag. I was so pleased and I loved everything IPSY offered. They were considerate of my preferences, but offered my a variety that I enjoyed wholeheartedly.
(If you're worried about the sizes of things, I'll be honest. They are not full-size products. They are bigger than samples, but not huge. I have yet to run out of a product that I've received. I even use a few products reguarly.)
Just to give you an idea of the kind of products that are up for grabs, a few things I have gotten thus far are:
- An eyebrow pencil (I was devastated when I thought I had lost this little dude because I love it and it was $30 to buy from Sephora...)
- Tons of eyeshadow (all in various colors and from different brands)
- Several different brushes (they're honestly really nice brushes)
- Different sheet masks (enough to hide the fact that I've been tired since sixth grade)
- Lipstick (liquid and stick)
- Nail polish
- Skin and hair repair products
Honest Zone: Real talk, guys. There have been things that I didn't like, that I knew I would never use. Yes - I have gotten an ugly bag or two, but that never dissuaded me. If I found something I didn't like product-wise, I just updated my Beauty Profile preferences.
Literally almost any beauty product is offered in these nifty little bags. For only $10, it's a pretty sweet deal, in my opinion,
Now, by no means am I saying that IPSY is something to go sign up for right now. It's a cool thing, but it's not for everyone. Some people are super specific about what they want - or even what they can use. If that sounds familiar, I do not recommend the Glam Bags. But if you are someone ready for a monthly surprise, then check it out. In the end, if you hate everything, you can always regift it.
