If You Don't Know God Now, You Need To

Why we must remain guarded in prayer during these times.

I never want to push my beliefs on anyone or try to condemn anyone to hell. All I can do is encourage people and hope they can get something from the words that I write. We are living in alarming times. With all of the shooting and killing going on, I feel as if I have lost my faith in humanity. People have lost their humanity. The fact that we are living in a time where people can kill each other without a second thought is absolutely heartbreaking. But even in these trying times, God is still in our midst.

We never know what day might be our last, so with that, it's important to be rooted in some sort of faith. Questioning whether or not God exists is nothing new, but I truly believe that most of us want to believe there is someone out there who is far greater than us. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine posted that we are living in the book of Revelation (if you don't know what that is, know that Revelation looks a lot like modern day society).

Whether or not I think this is true is something that we will never know. But I know that my God is still in control. No matter what may go on, God still has the last say so. We may have to follow the laws of the land, but as a Christian, I know and understand that must abide by a higher moral law that has been in place since the beginning of time. God expects all of us to strive to follow that higher law, and this starts with how we treat each other.

I'm not saying you have to be a devout Christian, but I feel that in times like these we all need to believe in something. Though the world seems to have lost its mind, I find comfort knowing that God is with me and he is always watching over me. Now is the time when we need to be praying without seizing. It's through prayer that we are able to keep ourselves sane.

I always go back to this scripture: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind--2 Timothy 1:7. Despite the times, we must not walk around fearing for our lives because nothing is in our control. God knows all and sees all, and even though our world is engrossed in darkness, I believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So what's the point of this? Believe in something; anything. I've found myself praying more now than ever before. Every day I turn on the news and someone has been shot, killed or kidnapped, or all of the above. It becomes depressing when all you hear is the violence that is plaguing the world.

My prayer is that the world will turn its humanity back on and we will see the value of life. I understand the frustration and the heartache that people are feeling, but we must not resort to killing each other as means to an end. If we live in a world that's no longer praying and believing, we have more to worry about than just the violence that's going on. If you don't know God now, I suggest you get to know him. Things are getting too real and it's time out for "lukewarm" faith.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
