Much like characters on HBO's hit television show, "Game of Thrones," Plattsburgh bars are all one of a kind (especially the ones you find around the downtown area off of Margaret Street). There's a right and a wrong place to drink for every day of the week. You can find deals every hour at these local hangouts if you really get to know each bar's specialties. Whether you're a college student looking to get out on the town for a great night, a local in the area scouting the drinking scene or a passerby tourist finding the best drinking deals, it's not hard to find an awesome location with this many options so close to each other. Depending on your style of drinking and what you like to do, each "Game of Thrones" character is sure to embody the type of mood you're going for in a bar. So sit back, grab a pitcher, pick a character and choose your own drinking adventure.
Monopole — Eddard "Ned" Stark
Monopole is one of the oldest bars in Plattsburgh (established in 1897!), but, like Ned Stark, also one of the most loved. Attracting both college kids and townies alike, you're sure to have a mixed crowd. You can count on the best wings you've ever had and a variety of good draft beer selections. Whether you like the laid back atmosphere of drinking or the lively and loud one, Monopole is perfect. You can enjoy a cold one with your friends while playing darts downstairs, or listen to some awesome live music and shoot pool upstairs. With a bar on each floor, there's no need to pick one space or the other. There's really no losing when you go here, especially on their infamous "Wing Wednesday," where wings are only 50 cents each!

The Green Room — Melisandre
Though she can bring out her inner rage when necessary, Melisandre is usually quite composed — just like the Green Room! Unless there's a special event going on or the weekend arrives, this place is usually pretty chill. The fishbowls are amazing here, so you won't want to go anywhere else once you've had one. They have couches for lounging, a dartboard, pool table and a small dance floor with a DJ set up. There's also a bigger dance space that's open for the weekend when there's more of a crowd. The bouncers here don't mess around either, so make sure to be on your best behavior.

Peabody's — Tyrion Lannister
Like Tyrion Lannister, all college students want to drink a lot of booze for little money. Peabody's is the perfect bar to do just that. With their infamous Chug-a-Mug Mondays, you can literally get a huge pitcher (which you can purchase for just a few dollars) of your favorite drink for the same price as it usually runs for in a cup! Literally, you can get a pitcher of rum and coke for only $3.25 or a pitcher of Rolling Rock for a steal at only $2.50. This special runs every Monday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. and is a favorite (like Tyrion) among all bars in Plattsburgh! Another little known promotion that Peabody's runs is called "Industrial Sundays," wherein people who work in the food service industry can get a special discount on all their drinks. What's not to love?
Having been in the area since 1940, it's a known hotspot on the weekends, as well as the weekdays. The downstairs bar is chill like the Imp himself, with plenty of seating for a big group of friends to hang. Upstairs, you will find a DJ playing hits among a huge dance floor, another large bar, a dartboard and bathrooms. Having a sudden hankering for pizza after a night of drunken fun? No place is better to drink than Peabody's because the infamous Pizza Bono is right next door. They serve fresh, unique and awesome pizza slices like poutine pizza, buffalo chicken pizza and barbecue chicken pizza. Pizza Bono is also open until 3 a.m. daily, so if you close the bar down you've still got a place to eat besides McDonald's.

Five1Eight (formerly Off The Hookah) — Daenerys Targaryen
Daenerys Stormborn is young, wild and full of tenacity. The same thing could be said for many who frequent Five1Eight nightclub. Established as Five1Eight on Aug. 28, 2015, this hotspot claims many titles (like the Mother of Dragons herself). Before Five1Eight, this club was known as Off The Hookah and, before that, Tabu Nightclub. Also like Daenerys Targaryen, this place is loved by all college students, seemingly due to it being the only club that offers an 18+ night and a night club scene. The DJs that play here are relatively well-known, so if you're looking for something more low key, this is definitely not your place (with it being more of a club and less of a bar). The club boasts a huge dance floor and usually gets packed on the weekends. Thursday is usually the best night to grab the best beer specials!

Brunner's Brauhaus — Jon Snow
Brunner's is the bar on Bridge Street that's as hidden, guarded and mysterious as Jon Snow. The bar may be hard to locate for first timers, but once you're in, the bar maintains a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. With a pool table and two dartboards, it's a great place to have a drink and some great times with friends. The bartenders are nice and the specials on drinks aren't too bad either.

Weekly Hours: Mon.–Sat., 10 a.m.–2 a.m. Sun., noon–2 a.m.
Olive Ridley's — Cersei Lannister
Cersei Lannister is much like those who attend Olive Ridley's on Tuesdays for Twofers — middle-aged and thirsty. In her case, she's thirsty to maintain power within the Lannisters, but you get the idea. Twofers on Tuesdays are a big draw for Olive Ridley's, as well as their karaoke night on Thursdays. Olive Ridley's is one of the undisputed townie bars in Plattsburgh. There's plenty of televisions for watching Sunday night football with a cold beer in hand. It's a casual place with great live entertainment and handcrafted local food, drawing in much of the North Country natives.

Hobie's Sports Den — Jaime Lannister
Hobie's, another staple bar on Margaret Street, is the place to grab a slice, drink a cold beer and watch the game. For anyone who loves sports (as does Jaime Lannister, a knight of the Kingsguard, the greatest swordsman and one known as "the Kingslayer" because he killed Aegon "the Mad King" Targaryen), there's plenty of televisions at their giant bar to keep you entertained. If you're just there for drinks and hanging out with friends, there's also plenty of tables and seating to order their amazing pizza and other delicious American-style food with your large group of friends (the quality of their food is far superior to just "bar food"). They have some great daily specials on food and drink that run all throughout the week as well. There's really nothing else you'll need after going to this amazing sports bar.

Chefy's Bar & Grill — Stannis Baratheon
For another place to relax and chill on Margaret Street after a long day at work, Chefy's has got you covered. Like Stannis, this bar is pretty calm and attracts the native/townie crowd with their tasty American-style fare food. Everything is local, including the live music and DJs, who provide the entertainment. From what I've heard, the service is superb.

Geoffrey's Pub — Joffrey Baratheon
Though spelled differently Joffrey Baratheon and Geoffrey's have this in common — they are both kings (in their own ways). Joffrey, before being poisoned to death, was the king of the Andals and Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Geoffrey's remains the king of the Scorpion Bowl! With dinner and drink deals running throughout the week, it's another favorite townie bar. Fear not, however, for the drink prices aren't too bad for college kids either.

Fourth Ward — Robert Baratheon
Before his untimely death, Robert Baratheon was the King of the Andals and Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Fourth Ward is the all-time king of the townie bars in Plattsburgh. Unlike King Robert, it's a small place on Montcalm Ave. and it's known to be one of the last neighborhood bars in Plattsburgh (I'd say the North country altogether).

Naked Turtle — Sansa Stark
Sansa Stark throughout "Game of Thrones" has attracted both younger and older men, much like the Naked Turtle on their infamous "Ladies Night." Right on Lake Champlain, this waterfront restaurant and bar is not part of the downtown scene, but is one loved by people for its food, friendly staff and atmosphere. This place is unique in that it's dog friendly and is open seasonally. Live entertainment is another draw for the many locals who frequent. The Naked Turtle opens for their spring/summer 2016 season this Thurs., April 28.

As you can imagine, there's no shortage of options when going over your choices for a nighttime outing with friends. You can go for a more laid back approach at a small bar or dive into the excitement of nightlife at a bigger club. Wherever you go, you are sure to have some interesting adventures, as each of these bars has a different story to tell. Like the storyline in "Game of Thrones," you never know where your night will take you.
