If I Could Write A Letter To Me

I'm going to start this letter off my saying life is tough. Sometimes it seems like it will break you into a million pieces, but those times are when you are actually becoming who you are meant to be. Don't forget that and remember where you come from along the way.

The middle school years are different. They are full of awkward moments, but you must learn to embrace those moments. They will not be around for long. It seems like they will drag, but really they will fly by. Do not forget boys still have cooties and playing with Barbies is OK. It is okay to sleep in an extra 30 minutes. You do not have to straighten your hair and put on make up. Do not stress over what you eat, your metabolism is still going steady. Go to the school dances and bust some moves like no one is watching. Everyone will forget about your awful school photo in a matter of time. And remember, deodorant will become your new best friend and you will hate bras.

The high school years are to cherish. They are full of adventure, heartache, and mistakes. As long as you learn from them, right? Just when you thought middle school was fast -- you are in for a treat. The CRCT days are over, but hello EOCT. Of course, final exams as well. Geez. Do not be fooled though this will be a great four years. You will meet new people. You will begin to travel. The FFA and other organizations will become your passion. However, remember you do not have much more time till college so spend time with your family.

Sadly, you will see some of your classmates say goodbye too early. Make sure you cherish the moments. Skip school some -- once, or twice. The boy who broke your heart will not be the first. You will even break some hearts yourself. Go out for Mexican and dessert, after. After graduation your metabolism will become a turtle. There is nothing like lunch with your best friend every day. Just like you, she's growing up to. It will not be long until you are both on separate paths. Apply to your dream school even if you do not get in. Study to maintain a good GPA, but remember to live a little. Also, going to Waffle House in the morning and being tardy is acceptable. The top secret is...you do not have to wear name brand clothing.

The College years are precious. They are about truly finding yourself. Kiss and hug mom and dad. This will not be an easy process for them. Neither will it be for you, but you will adjust. Go and try clubs and organizations that fit your interest. Even if it is outside of your comfort zone. Skip your morning coffee and Zaxby's and save to go on an adventure. Remember the Goodwill is right down the road when you need an outfit. You cannot have ice cream every day in the dining hall. Count your calories. Your metabolism does not even work anymore. Hey, but do not beat yourself up about it.

That guy you met first semester may not be worth it anymore. Remember college things get serious. Hold on tight to those guys that truly treat you right. It is okay to go to the tutoring center for math. Yes, even if you are a tutor in other subjects. Swallow your pride. Make connections, you will need them for your career. Start building your credit, but that does not mean you need a credit card. Take responsibility for your actions. Work at a summer camp. It is okay to drink a cookies and creme milkshake from Chick-fil-A every once in awhile. Do not neglect your laundry. Love Jesus and share the gospel. Use coupons. Have a girl's night out. Finally, at all possible cost do not purchase your books from the bookstore.

Always love yourself.

Sincerely,
An older version of myself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
