With the theatrical release of "Cars 3" at the beginning of the summer, Pixar has officially produced 18 feature length films. Many of us who were alive in the mid-1990's when the original "Toy Story" hit theaters are now college students. What better way to combine our love of animated movies and our dedication to our education than this?
If college majors were Pixar movies:
1. Business - "Monsters, Inc."
"Oh, that darn paperwork! Wouldn't it be easier if it all just blew away?"
Except doing paperwork and crunching numbers are actually fulfilling and pretty fun.
2. Anthropology - "Brave"
"Our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave enough to see it."
And brave enough to get your hands a little dirty while recovering artifacts from the past.
3. Art and Music - "Ratatouille"
"You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work and you must not let anyone define your limits."
Commitment, passion, and the willingness to dare are just the beginning of this lifelong pursuit.
4. Biology - "The Good Dinosaur"
"Sometimes you got to get through your fear to see the beauty on the other side."
And sometimes you have to get through challenging material and intimidating professors to get to what really interests you.
5. Communication and Theater - "Toy Story 2"
"I'm packing you an extra pair of shoes, and your *angry* eyes, just in case."
There is a delicate balance between preparation and improvisation.
6. Computer Science - "Cars 3"
"These machines create a virtual racing experience so real racers never even have to go outside."
It's the beauty of modern technology.
7. Criminal Justice - "The Incredibles"
"No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again. Sometimes I just want it to stay saved! You know, for a little bit?"
Not all heroes wear capes.
8. Dental Hygiene - "Finding Nemo"
"Just keep swimming!"
And brushing and flossing and brushing and flossing.
9. Education - "Toy Story 3"
"You would not believe what I have been through tonight!"
But the smiles on the students' faces are totally and completely worth it.
10. Engineering - "WALL-E"
"Eeeee...va."
Did anyone actually understand that math though?
11. English - "Toy Story"
"That wasn't flying. That was falling with style."
Writing long papers the night before they are due certainly takes a fair amount of finesse.
12. Exercise Science - "Cars"
"I'm a precision instrument of speed and aerodynamics."
And it takes a lot of stretching, lifting, and running to stay that way.
13. Forensic Science - "Cars 2"
"Nothing makes you feel more alive than being so close to death."
Enough said.
14. Nursing - "Up"
"Are you in need of any assistance today, sir?"
Somehow, you never get tired of asking because all you want to do is help people.
15. Political Science - "A Bug's Life"
"Have you been playing all summer? You think this is a game?"
It is most certainly not a game and there is always something that can be read or studied.
16. Psychology - "Inside Out"
"All right! We did not die today. I call that an unqualified success."
But surviving finals week with no sleep is definitely a qualified success.
17. Social Work - "Finding Dory"
"It means you can do whatever you put our mind to."
And it all comes down to advocating for others.
18. Undecided - "Monsters University"
"You don't need to study scaring. You just do it."
But you should probably pick something to study fairly soon.
We've enjoyed these cleverly hilarious and beautifully creative movies for over two decades and we aren't prepared to stop anytime soon--no matter how much education we have.
