As the MTV Video Music Awards gets closer and closer, I have been thinking about the possible winners, the outfits and, most importantly, the acceptance speeches. I've always wondered what I would say when I won an award for helping make the world a little less of a sucky place. I know I'd start off by holding my award while wiping my tears and saying, "Oh my gosh! There are so many I want to thank for this!"
Inspired by the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, I've made a mock speech thanking my friends and family for all they have done for me. Here's to hoping it will be as iconic as Kanye's speech after he took the mic from Taylor Swift. So, imma let you finish, but...
During my 18 years of life, I have realized the importance of my family and friends and how everyday holds new lessons to be learned. All of the values the people in my life have shown me have stuck with me and made me the Chelsi I am today! These values will continue to be instilled in me and help me work towards my goals. I have to begin by thanking my Pops. A military man who shows no emotion (only to his baby girl) has taught me that life is short and people will do you dirty, so wear your thickest skin 24/7. Next, I would like to thank my mother, a kindergarten and first grade teacher who has shown me the importance of staying youthful, even when you're an adult. Somehow, she always finds a way to turn a frown upside down. Though my brothers Sean and Adrian are totally different, I appreciate them for their differences. They have taught me to love myself, no matter how different I am and to accept other for who they are and what they bring to the table.
Thank you to my best friends and sisters from different misters Jazmine and Amaya who have taught me the value of true friendship. I love that we can go days without talking and pick up where we left off to cry, laugh and argue together!
Thank you Taylor Simpson for giving me the gift of bluntness; although she may hurt your feelings, she wants the best for everyone.
Thank you to my best guy friends Kobe, JP, D and the group message gang for being the guys and girls I can ask for advice. You've helped me through a multitude of crying phone calls and paragraph long messages saying, "I'm soooooo over him and all guys," and helped me find my worth.
To Bre, Zha and Alyssa, thanks for always encouraging me to write, talk in groups and do more than make jokes. Thank you for making me share my poetry and write these articles. Brandon, thank you for telling me you like me for me, that if I don't love me nobody will and reminding me my past doesn't define my present. Thanks for being the best notebook, broad shoulder to cry on and best pillow fight partner. Thank you for teaching me how to trust again.
Thank you to everyone who hurt me, for you taught me how to cry and heal again. Thank you to everyone who said I couldn't or wouldn't, you taught me I could and would. Thank you to all the people I've hurt, for you taught me that I too can do wrong and have to take responsibility for my wrong doings.
Thank you Grandma and Grandpa, (on both sides) you've taught me that God comes first and makes my wishes come true, and His love is the most powerful tool I have.
Having said that, thank you, God. Without you, we would all be nonexistent.
Lastly, I'd like to thank myself for learning, growing and finding myself.
I would end the speech with a classic Miss America wave, flip of my slayed hair and would exit stage right... Or would it be left? Whatever my good side is! Although I won't be accepting an award on national television anytime soon, through writing this speech I have realized how many people have impacted me. I encourage you all to write your own mock speech thanking those who have helped you win your award of being the best you you can be.
