I May Be A Human Resources Major, But I Am Not Like Toby From The Office

People may not be too fond of HR, but I am hoping to make that difference.

Coming into college, I only knew I wanted to be somewhere in the business field. I hadn't done much research on which field I should go into either. It wasn't until my father had helped me expand from general business into more specific fields. I then went onto the Bureau of Labor Statistics website and had learned more into other fields of business. I had then started going through the checklist of areas I knew I was not interested in and made a narrow list to about two or three choices.

After analyzing my three options-with the help of my dad-we had both narrowed it down to human resources. Now, I had seen The Office series twice and knew what HR was and knew a few things they do. As TV shows are, not everything is correct. I had seen the HR guy on that show-Toby- be looked down upon and not really liked by a whole lot of people. I had laughed along with others as they insult him and don't acknowledge what he says like he is a joke in their workplace. I now realize this could be e, but I sure hope it is not.

"How come you don't switch majors"? is a popular question I get asked once people know I am an HR major. It is as simple as this, I don't have a reason to and I enjoy the classes I have been in so far. Looking forward though, some classes will be challenging, such as workplace management or employee benefits.

I do believe that who I am as a person will help me in the HR field. I enjoy talking with new people and have a good attitude. I like to face new challenges with a team or by myself. I hope in the next few years that I can acquire an internship so I am able to see exactly what I would be doing for the rest of my life. I just hope my attitude and personality don't change too much or I may just become Toby from The Office...

I am looking forward to a bright future in working with others in a fun environment. Only a few more years and I will be officially adulting, every day of my life. Until then, I can only go for one semester at a time.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
