An Open Letter For A Mother With An Open, Loving Heart

Dear Mom,

I have been your daughter for 19 years and I have never felt lonely when I am around you. You are not just my mom, you're the best friend I could have ever asked for. When the time came for this article's deadline, I did not know what to write about — that's when you came into my mind and I wanted to share with everyone our special relationship.

Mom, do you remember the days we spend together? Just us. It was like two women facing this world without any man in our life. You were a backbone for me at that time. I needed some support and care and you were there for me. No matter how hard it was, you were there for me. When I was little, I used to be scared of the dark. I am still scared of the dark, but you never hesitated to walk me to the bathroom. You were there for every single thing.

Do you remember my 11th birthday? We fought a lot on that day, but still resolved our issues and that evening we celebrated my birthday. You called all my friends, and even a professional photographer to take nice pictures of me and my friends. Even though his pictures weren't the best, it is still one of my most memorable days.

Mom, when I was little I wanted to go to Six Flags because all my friends went and I couldn't go. So, I asked if you could take me but you said no. I was sad for the whole week. The next week, you got the tickets and we went to Six Flags together. I went on all the rides all by myself. You were scared of rides, so I enjoyed everything by myself. We laughed and made fun of us. This was yet another memorable day spent with you.

I am telling you all of this right now because you, dad, and my brother had to leave New Jersey for a while. That's when I realized how much I loved you. I missed you so much. I missed everything about you. I missed our teasing. I missed your childhood stories. I missed your cooking. I missed your presence. I missed our "girl talk."

You were there for everything and still are. I don't how much I can thank you. We never say that we love each other or hug each other but I'm telling you now that you are the best mom and I LOVE YOU!

Thank you for this wonderful life, mom.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
