Please Remember Hurricane Michael Victims This Christmas

Christmas is so much more than brown paper packages tied up with string.

ABC News

Hurricane Michael left absolute devastation in the Florida Panhandle this October. Just because you've forgotten about the storm doesn't mean others can. Most individuals and families who had to evacuate their homes won't be able to return for months, if not years. Cities such as Mexico Beach, Chipley, and Blountstown were destroyed or even wiped off the map and do not have the money to rebuild.

Instead of buying countless toys your child doesn't need, consider donating any amount to help these families. Even $20 will go a long way in helping them try to return to a normal life. All they want for Christmas is their house back. Most of them have lost everything, including their sentimental Christmas decorations. You don't realize how much something means to you until it's gone.

The area of Florida destroyed by Hurricane Michael is loved by many, and most plan to return as soon as they can. Unfortunately right now many are with family for an extended time, living in a hotel, or renting an apartment by the month. There are many charities who are continuing to help these victims. Please consider donating money, a gift, or supplies this holiday season. Here are just a few of the many organizations you can include in your giving this holiday season.

Global Giving Hurricane Michael Relief Fund

GlobalGiving's relief fund a nonprofit crowdfunding organization that supports grassroots charity projects, has launched a Hurricane Michael relief fund. The initiative will supply food, water and medicine in the immediate aftermath of the storm and invest in longer-term projects to help communities rebuild.

Avicenna Free Clinic Fundraiser

The Avicenna Free Clinic in Panama City has been destroyed by Hurricane Michael. The group has been providing services through a mobile clinic. Staff has started an online fundraiser for a new building. Since 2010, Avicenna has seen thousands of patients.

GoFundMe campaign

GoFundMe is working around the clock to ensure that any money raised on our platform will get to those who need it most.

MAP International

MAP International is providing disaster health kits to people affected by Hurricane Michael. One kit will assist a person living in a shelter for a week. The kits include antiseptic wipes, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other essential items.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity's role kicks in after a natural disaster and focuses on providing shelter and helping in the long-term recovery of a community.

American Red Cross

To make a financial donation, go to www.redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word MICHAEL to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
