For many college students, financial burdens make it difficult for a lot of students to eat meals every day. It's hard and often times students joke and kid about their struggles with one another but, the reality is that for many students
At Daily Bread in the Center for Community Outreach KU students no longer have to choose between paying bills, getting gas, or eating. Daily Bread is a food pantry that is housed inside of the Lutheran Campus Ministries Westwood House. The food pantry is one of the most relaxed and easy going places I have ever visited.
I met with Sophia Fortmeyer and Andy Monroe , who are the co-directors of daily bread. They talked to me about fighting the stigma of shame that associates with going to a food pantry or even just getting help. They have been operating the food pantry for about 3 years at the Westwood house. Students don't need to pre-register or even sign a form to get food from the pantry!
The pantry is open on Thursdays from 4-7pm, plus you can grab a "$2 or just free" bowl of ramen from Ramen Bowls.
The Daily Bread organization is always looking for volunteers to help out as well and if you would like to volunteer you can get in touch with them.
