After Orlando: How We Can Change The World
metta-acupuncture.com

I just recently went to Disney World in Orlando, FL not a month after the horrific shooting at a nightclub in the very same town. I was brought to tears when I heard about what happened. A direct attack on our country, the LGBT community, the Latino community, but most importantly, just on mankind.

I, personally, do not understand how someone can feel so strongly towards a group of people that they would want to kill them.

One video in particular made me really stop and think about the events that have happened recently:

Loved ones dying with each other, some people survived because they didn’t want to go out that night, others died in completely demeaning ways after having survived cancer twice. I cannot stand by and watch as horrible acts like this go on but I really don’t know how anything I could do would help even a little.

I am buying all of the songs that people are making about the events in Orlando (the proceeds go to the LGBTQ+ community and the victims’ families). I am constantly thinking about the people who lost loved ones that day and how it must feel but I still feel like I am doing absolutely nothing.

My hope for the future is that people will not have to hide their sexuality from anyone, everyone will be judged on their character, people will be more loving and excepting of one another, and that all people will be viewed as fundamentally the same. Black. White. Gay. Straight. Male. Female. Everything in between.

Whenever I think of how much further our nation has to go before we are all considered equal I feel like I am in the 1900’s when black people were slaves and women were housewives and no one could come out for fear of being killed. I hope that our society is not regressing into its old ways.

Everyone deserves to be loved and accepted as much as everyone else. People would be able to debate the topics they are passionate about without getting upset at the other person or even hating them. We should all be able to stand together with all of our differences and say that we can respect each other at the very least.

That is my dream for the future. As a straight, white, female I don’t know if I can change the world but I will not stop talking and writing about it until the problems are solved. That is my weapon against all of the hate and injustice in the world. How have you chosen to help?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
