Freshman year can be overwhelming. Finally having the opportunity to figure out who you are is one of the most important things to learn your first semester. However through all that chaos and stress, enjoying college life is just as important. Here are some easy ways to make the most out of your first year at the University of Arkansa.
1. Explore campus
The U of A campus has many unique buildings with a lot to offer. Not surprisingly, lots of the buildings on campus has stellar views if you know where to go. Whether it be the basement of Mullins or the skywalk in the Architecture building, some of the coolest places to kick back are only a walk away. Exploring the buildings on campus is not only free, but also can get you out of the basic, local-coffee-shop atmosphere.
2. Meet your neighbors
Whether you live in Reid, Yocum, or one of the many Maples, take some time to go next door and introduce yourself. Not only could you meet some cool new friends, you will always have someone to go to if you're in desperate need of anything!
3. Go to that random event at the Union
The Union holds many events put on by many different organizations. If these organizations care enough to put something on, odds are it's going to be a pretty cool thing. Going to these events could give you insight you've never experienced which is always good (plus there is usually free stuff)!
4. Always look for the best deal
Remember that coupon book you got at the beginning of the year? Yeah, USE IT! There are so many good deals out there for college students that aren't even used. Take advantage of every discount, BOGO, or sale possible. Instead of buying that $50 jacket online, try finding a dope $4 sweatshirt at a local thrift store. Your bank account will thank you later.
5. Get involved
Being involved can include Greek Life, different clubs the U of A has to offer, intramural sports, you name it! And if none of these seem appealing, grab some pals and make your own group! Forming these relationships is very important to the first two semesters of your college career. Get out there and meet some folks because guaranteed almost everyone is as nervous as you about making friends.
6. Call home every once in a while
Just because you aren't home anymore doesn't give you an excuse to forget your family. The people you left back home want to be a part of your life just as much as the people you meet at the university. Show the fam back home some love and call to chat here and there. You won't regret it, and your family will know you didn't forget about them.
7. Adventure whenever possible
Fayetteville is an amazing town. Maybe even the best in Northwest Arkansas. There are so may fun things to do outside of the University of Arkansas. Most of these things can even be free! Hiking, camping, or even just hanging out on Dickson Street can be some of the most exciting and inexpensive nights. Make the most out of your down time and get out and make some memories.
