Snapchat stories. You love them or you hate them, there's really no in between. There are those people who update their Snapchat story way too often (milk going into espresso only looks cool the first 1,000 times you see it). There are those people's stories (usually celebrities) who you look forward to watching every single day. There are those people who have the Snapchat story business down so well that their lives look absolutely perfect.
While not everyone is extremely tech-savvy, almost anyone can appreciate the power of a good creative snap story. So, without further ado and in no particular order, here are my top 10 faves from my own personal friends list and from around the web.
1. Emoji faces.
Whether pasted onto a person on put together with other emoji icons, the enlarging tool on Snapchat comes in handy in many ways. This is a classic Snap story move that never gets old.
2. Slow and fast motion effects.
Whether it's a slow-mo of your favorite song for dramatic effect or a child turning a tricycle over, it's so easy to make people laugh simply by adding that bunny or snail filter.
3. Those funny filters.
Of course, no article about Snapchat stories would be complete without an ode to filters.
4. This filter deserves its own category:
The Face Swap feature is either the most hilarious or the scariest thing I've ever seen.
5. You can even go on dates, and let all your friends know it.
6. You can post reactions to events or pictures.
Keep your friends updated with the score of your favorite sports team (because a good one percent of them probably actually care).
7. You can also post reactions to whatever interesting things are happening to you at the moment.
This is my favorite live Snapchat video series ever, courtesy of Viner / YouTuber "The Gabbie Show."
8. Did you run into a celebrity?
Now's the chance to get everyone to actually pay attention to your story.
Yes, I did run into Benji from "Pitch Perfect" on the subway. Yes, I took a very subtle picture. And no, I did not talk to him. I was just thinking about my story.
9. It's a place to be trendy.
Because who doesn't want to see you eating a rainbow bagel on the Brooklyn Bridge?
10. You can create a pretty funny story with very few materials.
Talent like this can entertain millions.
