Dating is hard, we all know it to be true. Finding the right girlfriend or boyfriend can be super difficult especially in today’s world. However, once you master the difficulty of finding the significant other, there comes a time when you ask yourself, “is this really going anywhere? Could he or she possibly be in it for the long run?” If the following things are happening, that’s when you’ll know that bae is a keeper.
1. You’ve met his parents, he’s met yours, heck, and even your parents have met each other!
This is a scary, very important part in relationships for many couples. The older you get, the scarier it becomes when meeting the parents. However, if mom and dad love you, you’re totally in!
2. There is no awkward silence.
This comes naturally to most successful couples, but it can be very hard to overcome. Once you and your boyfriend or girlfriend are totally cool with just sitting in silence, that’s when you know it’s real.
3. Staying in becomes better than going out.
We all love to go out and have date nights, but when you and bae are actually for real, it won’t matter whether you go out to Japanese or order delivery, because nights in can be just as special!
4. You’re BFF’s with the significant others siblings.
This is so important! If your siblings don’t like your boyfriend, it’s not going to last. It might be okay right now, but family comes first. If your sister doesn’t like him, no one will!
5. The “I love you’s” are in more than just three words.
When you’re with someone who truly cares about you, they’ll find other ways to say I love you. For instance, if bae asks if you’ve buckled your seat belt, puts your dishes away for you, holds the door for you, or lets you jam out to Taylor Swift continuously- they love you and always will.
6. You don’t have to wear make-up or brush your hair just to hang out with them.
If you’re still rushing to get your hair, nails and make-up done in time for your boyfriend to come over and have a Guitar Hero date, you’re doing it wrong. You still have time to go before bae is the one. While we all love to look good for our significant others, it’s okay to be a bum sometimes. If he’s in it for the long run, he has to accept you even on your worse days.
7. You know it’s real when it won’t hurt the others feelings when you call them out about that horrid morning breath. “Babe, did you brush your teeth this morning, jeez!”
You know it’s true.
8. He or she has to love Chick-fil-A.
If they don’t like Chick-fil-A, you need to say good-bye. Right. Now.
9. Or, they have to like your taste in food.
They get extra points if they know your order!
10. The ugliest of snapchats go out to him or her.
Once you and bae are over the “are we there yet” hump, you no longer have to look cute in your snapchats. He thinks my three chins are hot, okay?!
11. You can pick each other’s nose, pop each other’s pimples or hold each other’s hair if it was a night out gone wrong.
This is totally gross, but if bae can hold your hair while you puke and still love you the next day, they're in it to win it.
12. No matter the time, they will always be there for you.
Even after the longest of days, after all the complaining and whining you’ve done, if they're still there to listen to you, they love you. Most importantly, they care for you. Embrace it.
13. Even though they’d rather be watching football, they suck it up and watch your shows with you, too.
Compromise, people.
14. You find the two of you talking future.
If your conversations include things that could happen in the future, uh hello, they see a future with you! They’re a total keeper.
15. They don’t mind if you hang out with your friends.
This is a two-way street. In order to have a successful relationship, and for it to go anywhere, you’ve got to leave room for the friends. If bae suggests that you should hang out with your friends, it’s not because he doesn’t want to be with you. He wants you to have fun and spend time with the guys or the girls. This is the kind of person you need to spend your life with.
16. Jealousy is not a concept.
Of course we want our boyfriends and girlfriends to want us only for themselves, but if you’re doing things to make your significant other jealous, stop. You should probably re-evaluate the strength of your relationship.
17. Human exhales of gas are a normal occurrence.
You know its love when your significant other farts and holds you under the covers to die.
18. He or she is the first person you think of telling news to.
If you get an A on a test, or you got the job, the first person you call is them.
19. Valentine’s Day is just another day.
Every day is Valentine’s Day! You don’t need one day out of the year to show each other how much you love one another.
20. They find your obsessions cute.
Whether it’s old people, babies, or cute animals, your lover has to accept and appreciate your obsessions in order for the two of you to last.
21. You hurt when they hurt.
Nothing is worse than when bae is hurting. It’s almost as if your hearts beat the same pattern, and when theirs hurts, yours does too.
22. They deal with your horrible signing voice.
But tell you that you sound just like Adele.
23. The selfies and pictures together are endless.
If you have a unholy amount of pictures together, especially selfies, then you’re comfortable enough with one another, and have spent enough time together to determine whether or not they’re a keeper.
24. You never leave each other without a kiss or an “I love you.”
You just don’t know when the next time you’ll see them will be.
25. You know each other’s “looks.”
It’s extremely important to understand and know your lovers facial expressions. Especially the “I’m hungry. Feed me now” look.
26. They accept your love for dogs, and approves your plans of owning 15, one day.
Did I really need to even mention this one? They get even more extra points if you already own a dog together.
27. They’re your partner in crime.
Okay, maybe not in crime, but definitely your partner to all the Braves and Hawks games.
28. Sweet gestures are a common thing.
Couples that stay together, always do sweet things for one another.
29. They go on family vacations with you.
If they’re good enough for your family to invite them on vacation, they’re definitely good enough to keep around.
30. You go on adventures with each other, or do things you never would had you never of met them.
Like going zip-lining across mountains.
31. Couples costumes are a thing.
If your boo is okay with coordinating outfits for Halloween, they definitely love you.
32. You match by accident.
This might happen more often than expected. There’s some telepathy going on in the air.
33. You can’t see yourself with anyone else.
We can try to be funny when determining if your boo is in it for good, but let’s be serious for a second. If you can’t imagine yourself living life with anyone else, then bae is without a doubt a keeper.
