In case you haven't noticed, it is absolutely freezing outside (I really hope you've noticed by now). Before break, everyone on campus was enjoying the good life -- no snow, no cold, no problem! But since we've all returned the tundra has been unleashed and I'm not sure that anyone is safe. With below freezing temperatures and inches upon inches of snow on the ground, it's easy to find yourself wondering how you will ever survive the next couple months in this winter wonderland. If you follow these tips, then maybe, just maybe, you'll make it through the season.
1. Cover everything!
When I say everything I truly mean everything. Syracuse takes no prisoners so you have to make sure you're completely and utterly ready to battle the elements. Now is not the time to be showing midriff or any skin for that matter. It's too cold! Make sure you have a sturdy coat, scarf, hat, gloves and boots before you leave and you'll be ready to face the tundra that is 'Cuse.
2. Don't be lazy...shovel!
Shoveling snow is easily one of the most tedious and time consuming (not to mention cold) jobs one could imagine. We all hate to do it, but it needs to be done. If you're living off campus, then don't submit to a snowed in lifestyle! Shovel you're path and driveway as soon as the snows done falling. Don't let it accumulate for three days because I promise you shoveling six inches of snow isn't nearly as bad as shoveling 12 inches.
3. Buy some groceries (for once)!
It's times like this when the roads are a little more slick than usual, so it might be a good time to stock up on the essentials, most importantly food. Save yourself the trouble of having to leave your apartment everyday to find some grub. One trip to the grocery store could having you eating real good for the rest of the week. Once you've obtained said groceries you save yourself the trouble of having to venture back out into the frigid winter air.
4. Never leave the house with wet hair!
Trust me I've made this mistake a couple of times and it's easily the worst thing you can do. Aside from the fact that you're going to be that much colder if you're hair's wet, your hair is quite literally going to freeze. I really wish I was kidding, but it's the cold hard truth (literally). No one wants their hair snapping off like icicles, so for all my ladies out there please blow dry your hair before leaving the house. It's for your own good, I promise.
5. Consume hot beverages!
Who doesn't love a nice warm drink during those cold winter nights? Pick your poison! Whether it's coffee, hot chocolate or tea, it'll keep your body feeling nice and warm when the outside world is nice and cold. There's really no better excuse to develop an addiction to hot chocolate because you live in Syracuse and you deserve it!
