Valentine's Day is a holiday that everyone knows but not everyone loves. It's definitely one of those holidays that can remind you of how single (not necessarily lonely!) that you actually are. I'm not here to tell you to sit around, mope, eat discounted chocolates you bought yourself and watch some Netflix. Although, let's be real its not the worst decision. I think those would be very good possible February 15th plans. However, here is my complete guide to you on how to rock Valentine's Day even if you are spending it 110 percent single.
1. Decorations.
Any and every store that you will encounter from about January first until Valentine's Day is covered in decorations. Now, if you're going to spend Valentine's Day alone then these decorations may not be the happiest reminders. So in the spirit of the holidays, decorate your apartment, house or wherever you reside. However, these decorations should be about someone who is smart, attractive, funny, cool, has great taste in music and a sick Instagram feed AKA you. Take those cheesy heart picture frames and put pictures of you in them. Can you say, I don't need anyone to make me happy? But seriously, take those Valentine's Day decorations and make them into things you like and care about. #Independence
2. Valentine's Day Cards.
For whatever reason, USPS is popping' on Valentine's Day and everyone everywhere is getting lovey-dovey cards and flowers, etc. So, a couple of days before V-Day, take a trip down to your local store which is undoubtedly covered in V-Day everything and pick up a card for yourself. You could either go with the more chill version of this and buy the normal-sized cards that just say Happy Valentine's Day or you could go with the jumbo, super glittery Valentine's Day card, which is my personal preference. If you don't do it big for yourself then who will? Now take that baby down to the post office and mail it to yourself so on Valentine's Day while other people are getting their average-sized cards, you can get your jumbo version. Who better to be your Valentine than yourself?
3. Valentine's Day and Night Activities.
Now I have two options for you on this topic...
First, This is my personal favorite especially if you are still bitter about a breakup, whether it's recent or not. That night get some Valentine's Day cards like the ones everyone use to pass out in elementary school. I would go for "Frozen," "Minions" or any other cartoon that personally annoys you. Then, write the names of all of your exes on each Valentine's Day card and then burn them. Just kidding ... but, seriously.
On the other hand, the more chill option is to celebrate with friends. By surrounding yourself with friends you love it will still be a fun holiday. Last year, I went to go see "50 Shades Of Grey" *gasp* with my best friends, went to a fancy restaurant to eat and then gave them all little V-Day goody baskets.
4. Something extra to consider.
Valentine's Day is a holiday about showing the people you love how much you love them. So all jokes aside, even if you don't have a significant other you can spend Valentine's Day with friends or family and still have an amazing day. And although, I have been trying to avoid advocating the eating a bunch of chocolate and laying in bed option. Let's be real, what other times of the year can you get large amount of chocolate for that cheap?
Take this guide and have a Happy Valentine's Day!
