Finals week is one of the most important weeks of any college student's life. It determines your ending grade in a class and whether you can move on in the next phase of your college career or not. I'm an expert at studying, so I thought that it's probably about time I share my secrets with the rest of the world.
1. Clean up your study space
There is no way you can ever get any studying done with a messy work area. Grab your sanitation wipes and maybe a broom and start cleaning! Might take a few hours... days... maybe weeks! This is an important step!
2. Buy some good studying supplies
You can't possibly be expected to retain any information if your Post-It notes are bland and boring, or you don't have a highlighter in every color of the rainbow! A shopping trip is absolutely necessary. No you are NOT procrastinating!
3. Organize your notes
Make sure your notes are separated by section and topic so that you aren't mixing up information. You may even want to go through and color-code everything in your notebook. You also should think about what colors go best together! Shut up, Mom! This is important!
4. Play some music
Music will help you to center yourself and focus... "GRIPS ON YOUR LEGS. FRONT WAY, BACK WAY. YOU KNOW THAT I DON'T PLAY!" I'm sorry... what was I saying?
4. Start with your most difficult subject
This subject should get most of your attention since you're struggling so much with it! I mean, you opened the book pretty well so I think you deserve a break now.
5. Give yourself time to relax
You've studied for a whole 5 minutes. You read one sentence of your textbook and you've learned nothing, but your brain hurts so you deserve a break. Obviously you'll study longer the next round.
6. Get a snack
There is absolutely no way for you to properly study without snacks. I mean, what are you supposed to do without sustenance?
7. Make sure to take time to think about how much work you have to do
No study session would be complete without you sitting back in your chair, closing your eyes, and thinking about all of the stuff you have to learn by Wednesday. This is a vital part of the process.
8. Keep up-to-date on social media
Check your social media frequently so everyone knows that you're still alive and the fiery pit of English Literature hasn't consumed your soul. Also, post about how much work you have to do and how stressed you are about it. This will help you to remember to study.
9. If you don't start on schedule, just don't start at all
You planned on studying at 7:00PM but now it's 7:01PM? Eh, at least you tried to be on schedule. You can just do it later.
10. Sleep constantly
Sleep is important to retaining information! So what if you've been asleep for 15 hours straight? You're trying to LEARN!
