11 Practical Ways You Can Spend Time With Jesus Over Christmas Break

Sometimes we forget that our daily devotion is just as important as the Christmas hype.

I get it. I'm also a super lazy college student. However, I love Jesus a lot and I know you do too! Here are some practical ways that you can spend time with Him over this break and work on thriving instead of surviving!

1. Read your Bible.

This might be the most obvious one, but spending time with Jesus means spending time in His word.

2. Stay plugged into worship music.

I've learned that my soul is not at peace when worship music isn't playing in a room. Here's my personal worship playlist if you need new ideas for some non-mainstream worship songs!

3. Utilize the Bible app.

The Bible app is actually pretty great and even provides reading plans and devotionals. For example, if you click here, it will take you to one.

4. Listen to podcasts.

I don't know any college students who don't have to drive at least half an hour to get to their home from their college. One of the best things that I've found is the podcast by Jonathan David & Melissa Helser. I know that there are many more out there, but these podcasts are full of new viewpoints and ways to live a Christ-filled life. Also, my church posts their sermons online, and I'm sure that many others do the same. If you don't enjoy the sermons at your church, or can't make it to church, utilize these tools!

5. Find someone to keep you accountable.

Even if it's someone asking you daily how your time with Jesus is going, find someone willing to do it. It's easy to slack off during the holidays and get so wrapped up in life that we seem to forget about our creator.

6. Attend church.

Name a better way to spend time with Jesus, I'll wait.

7. Bible journal.

If you're artsy and looking for a way to spend some time with Jesus, this is the perfect thing! Use watercolors, pens, markers, literally anything to decorate your Bible and spend some much needed time with The Lord.

8. Drive and worship.

I know this may sound like point #4, but my favorite thing to do is drive for at least 20 minutes and blast worship music. Do it. It will change your life.

9. Pray.

Talk to Jesus! He wants to hear from you!

10. Journal or write letters.

If you're not into the artsy stuff, writing a letter to God or just writing down everything he's been teaching you is a great way to spend time with Him!

11. Wake up in the mornings.

I could be called a hypocrite for this one since I have yet to experience an early morning with Jesus, but I've heard that this is the way to go. In reality, I've been waking up at noon. However, as soon as you wake up- get some coffee and turn on a podcast or worship music. Set aside time to spend with Jesus, because he's your friend and loves you. If you're not a morning person (like me), spend the nights with Jesus and tell him all about your day. There's not a right or a wrong time, as long as there is the time you're setting aside.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
