How To Seize Your Last Months Of Senior Year

Making the most of your time before the time runs out

You knew it would happen eventually, but senior year came before you were able to do all of the things you swore you would do before you finally crossed the stage and became an alum. There are only a few months left until graduation, and now's the time to complete everything you need to do to fully satisfy your undergraduate career.

1. Meet up with a friend from years past.

Maybe it is your freshman year roommate or someone you accidentally drifted apart from, but somewhere along the way you probably lost touch with someone you shared a lot of memories with. Make a point to catch up with this person and reminisce on the old days before your post-grad schedules and locations make it impossible.

2. Take advantage of your school's career-related anything.

People are willing to pay good money to receive career advice--so why not take advantage of your on-campus resources that are most likely free? Whether it is going to a career fair or asking someone to review your resume, you never know how beneficial these resources could be unless you go out and give them a try!

3. Go for a walk around campus with no destination in mind.

Have you ever actually walked around campus by yourself for no reason at all? Maybe during your walk you notice something that you've never seen before because you've been too busy running from classroom to classroom. Not only will you get some fresh air, but you may get a rekindled appreciation for the campus you once fell head over heels in love with during your high school tour.

4. Express gratitude to your favorite professor.

This could be as simple as sending them an email before graduation thanking them for their guidance or how you've never forgotten a certain lesson of theirs. I am sure that they will be happy to hear that they have made an impact on your life.

5. Give yourself a day to rest.

I'm not outwardly encouraging you to skip class (but if you think it fits the bill, so be it), but being this close to graduating and being given the task of having to figure your life out can be stressful. It's easy to get caught up in all of the things you need to do and forget that it's important to take some time to breathe too.

6. Finally go to "that place."

You know, the one you swear you're going to go to before you graduate, whether it is your college town's local coffee shop, mom and pop breakfast place, or that beautiful building you pass everyday whose purpose is unknown.

7. Participate in the cheesy things.

So maybe you're at the point where you think it's corny to participate in your school's traditions because you've done them so many times, so you just do nothing at all instead. This time next year though, chances are you'll probably be wishing that you had done everything while you could have.

8. Take more pictures--and actually save them.

I'm someone who wishes I didn't have to delete a good chunk of my photos from my freshman and sophomore years of college because my phone was running on hardly any storage for months. Take pictures of things you may want to look back on one day that don't seem important in the moment, like your dorm room or of you and your roommates just hanging around. Even better, take the time to save them to a computer or a flash drive to ensure they won't get forever erased.

9. Start getting professional, if you haven't already.

Since you're probably on the job hunt, now's the time to clean up your Facebook page and other social media accounts before a potential employer sees it. Nobody is interested in seeing someone who could possibly be their future employee in a photo underage taking shots or shotgunning a beer. Also, it's never too early to start slowly buying clothing that can make up your professional wardrobe so you don't have to buy it all at once as soon as you get your first "grown up" job.

10. Do something out of your comfort zone.

Remember how freshman year everything seemed so scary? It's because nothing about this college experience resembled anything you had ever been a part of before this point in your life. But over time this once intimidating place became your home, and you stopped taking risks because you got comfortable. Do one thing that scares you before school ends, like applying to that job you think you don't have a shot at.

11. Set goals for the next five years.

Take a few minutes out of your day to jot down five to 10 things you hope to accomplish within the next five years. Now hide this list, or put it out of sight so it is not easily accessible. If you can remember this list exists, reopen it five years after graduation, and see if you have accomplished any of these goals. Were they realistic at the time? Or did your life end up in a completely different direction that's actually way better? Creating these goals will probably show you how unexpected life can be, often for the better. (Way easier than handwriting a list? Emailing yourself this letter at futureme.org.)

12. Thank your support system.

Your parents, roommates, extended family, significant other and close friends probably heard it all. You told them the details about every long night studying you had to endure and every accomplishment along the way as well. Thank them for listening to you complain and supporting you when things went right. Because as your journey comes to a close you remember how scared and afraid you were beginning your college career--and how it didn't take long to realize you were never actually alone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
