Three words. Eight letters. A simple statement for a complex feeling. If you're reading this, I'm sure you've exchanged these heartfelt words with another person. Whether it's relatives, friends or significant others, "I love you" is the way we express all the feelings we feel. And while it is hailed as the epitome of expressing love, there are other ways. These much more common phrases are a part of our everyday life, but they, like "I love you", pack so much emotion. Think back to when you've used or said these words, and try not to find the "I love you" or its close second "I care about you" behind them.
1. Put your seatbelt on
Cars are dangerous. People die every day in them. I don't want that to happen to you, so buckle up.
2. You can have the last piece
I love food. You love food. We are both enjoying this food. But, because I love you...take the last piece. Hurry.
3. Call me when you get home
I'm letting you out of my sight now. Once again, the world's a dangerous place. I won't know if you're alive from now until you tell me...so tell me. I need to know you're still breathing.
4. I hope you're feeling better
You didn't feel well last I spoke to you. It's been on my mind since. I was hoping that changed. If not, can I help?
5. Are you hungry?
If nobody else fed you, including yourself, I will. Treat yourself. I hear the 4 for $4 is good.
6. Here, take my jacket
You look cold. Or not fully comfortable. Or something. You look like you need a jacket. And not just any jacket, mine. So here it is. And if you never give it back...I would be content.
7. Are you okay?
I can't tell. Something's off. I'm scared out of my mind wondering how you are. I just want to know you're okay. You're a part of my peace of mind.
8. Stay on the phone with me
I just want to hear your voice. We don't have to talk about anything more than the weather. Anything you say right now is all I need. So go ahead, I'm all ears.
9. I'll wait till you get inside
My momma taught me this at a young age. She made sure we were inside wherever she dropped us off. And it became the norm for anyone I love or care about. I won't pull off until you're inside and safe. I can't help it.
10. Get some rest
This can easily be misconstrued as an insult. But I promise you it's not. I know you and I can tell you're not you. I can tell you need sleep. Or rest. Some kind of rejuvenation. Get it. Please. So you can feel your best.
11. Be safe
Take care. Be careful. Anything could happen. Do all you can to protect yourself. For you and then for me. Because I love you.
