I just recently got back from Kentucky and it took 13 hours by bus. Unless you are the driver or navigator, completely focused on the road then you will have a hard time passing the time if you aren't well prepared for your trip! So here are some valuable tips for any long road trip. Trust, they will help you!
1. Dress comfortably
For any sort of road trip, leather pants, heel, skinny jeans, and leathers jackets isn't the way to go. If you truly want to be comfortable, dress in something that is easy to move around in. You are already prone to become irritable if you are cooped up for a long periods of time, especially if you are with other people. You should be comfortable. You never know if the trip could end up being longer than anticipated.
2. Power backup
Even if you do stop along the way to your destination, outlets in the McDonald's or the bus are not guaranteed. If you do have outlets in the car that's great but is it wise to invest in a backup power pack. Most are inexpensive and can give your phone one full charge just like if it were plugged into a wall. It's worth it, you never know when an emergency could hit. There are even ones that can also charge your laptop if you are working on a project or something for business.
3. FOOD!
The most important tip of them all! point should've been first! If you live near a Wawa, Sheetz, Walmart or whatever the nearest convenience store is, run in a STOCK UP! Usually you stop on the way to eat actual meals but there will be times when you're hungry and starving will just make the trip unbearable. Make your Starbucks run, stock up on Cheezits, the whole 9 yards!
4. Sleep
Now depending on your sleep habits and what time of day you will be traveling, it's always best to get as much sleep before the trip as possible. When traveling you should expect the unexpected. You could be diving right into your adventure as soon as you arrive, you could be delayed, and just traveling in general is exhausting so, fill up on the sleep tank if possible before traveling.
5. Music
Music is a must! Whether you have a bluetooth speaker or earbuds, it's a must, it can help calm you in order to sleep. It helps escape the noise if you have a bunch of rowdy kids in the back of the bus. It just really helps pass the time in general.
6. Cash
Not every place you go to especially for souvenirs is going to have a credit card machine or the square app. Also, you never know, your card or bank might start to deny certain purchases if they think fraud may be upon you. Make sure you contact your bank before you travel. It's always good to have cash handy.
7. Water
Stay hydrated!
8. Neck pillow
You don't want to mess up your body in transit! A neck pillow is great for long rides especially is you plan on sleeping on the way!
9. Safety
It's always important and wise (especially if you are with children) to keep an eye on your surroundings, there are areas that aren't as friendly and or many be as they seem.
10. Have fun!
While writing this I was thinking, it takes so much to pack and get ready for a trip and then towards the end you are exhausted and it's almost like you need a break from the vacation you just took to get back to work. Have fun and relax. The world nowadays does not know how to chill out and spend quality time with friends and family. Don't be one of those people.
