Ah, the end of the semester is quickly approaching, which means that we're soon heading into summer vacation. But with the sun shining and everyone on Instagram taking selfies of themselves hiking or going to concerts, it makes it so very difficult to stay focused and dedicated to finishing the semester out right. Believe me, I also have spring fever, and pretty much everyone I know does, too.
Fear not, because I have some helpful tips for you to stay focused on ending the semester right, but still keeping the excitement alive for summer vacation, which of course means enjoying the beautiful weather!
It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want — oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! Mark Twain, "Tom Sawyer, Detective."
1. Go outside and study!
This is a great way to get some work done, and this will give you the time to also start working on your tan! Needless to say, I find it extremely relaxing sitting outside and doing homework. Sitting inside and doing homework all semester is pretty boring to say the least, so treating yourself is beneficial. But just remember, avoid any distractions. Pop some ear buds in and listen to some classical music to keep your mind awake and alert.
2. Keep in mind that finishing the semester with a positive approach is applicable with the right mindset and realistic goals!
Write down some goals for yourself that you would like to achieve before the semester is out. Such as, getting an A on one of your finals or finishing a project on time. Or for smaller goals, you could just write down the specific due dates for your upcoming assignments. Writing your individual goals down or putting alerts on your phone is essential for keeping on top of your assignments and deadlines.
3. Remind yourself to take a break!
I mean, seriously, it's beautiful outside. Maybe you could have a picnic with your roommate on campus, go for a hike or plan a day trip to go to the beach and leave your homework at home or on campus. Sometimes even just a quick walk can clear your mind of stresses and concerns.
4. Limit your social media usage.
As humans, we spend an increasingly high amount of time on our phones. I'm also guilty of this. However, the more I limit my time on social media, I realize how much more I can actually get done with no distractions of constant concern to check my Instagram, Facebook and the like. Try turning off your phone or timing yourself, starting with five minutes without using your phone, and then ease your way up to longer amounts of time. This way, you'll feel on track with your thoughts and focus to complete your assignments.
5. Lastly, keep in mind that if you made it this far into the semester...
I am certain that you can survive finals week! Keep your head up, and make the best of your spring semester!
Hopefully these tips will be helpful and informative. Just remember, don't let your homework own you, you own your homework!
