How To Dress In Newport: As Told By Chuck Bass
Her Campus

We all know him, we all hate him and we all secretly love him; the infamous Chuck Bass. I mean hot damn... we all have caught ourselves catching a glimpse of this hard to get Manhattan legend. If it's one thing that Chuck Bass is famous for (besides his attitude) are his clothes. Whether it daytime casual or a night drinking with Nate Archibald, Mr. Bass always dresses to impress. And when your dad owns hotels and makes millions, you can afford to dress in Versace clothes and drink martinis for breakfast. (Hell, I would!)

However, I'm not condoning to act like Mr. Bass. He is a tortured soul but he's also narcissistic. We are only taking clothing tips from his life!

I've noticed for some time that the boys of Newport, RI dress similarly to Mr. Bass. All of the patterned ties, the pink, and the fancy loafers. It's preppy-chic, and you gotta have a certain attitude to rock this look. But if you wanna know how to dress when you visit Newport, you can watch Gossip Girl or follow these Chuck Bass tips:

Bow-ties Are A Must!

It's my personal belief that Chuck Bass has a closet for all of his bow-ties. I mean look at this guy! There's practically one of every color in his wardrobe.

Pink, purple, blue, green or black bow-ties are a staple in Mr. Bass's wardrobe. It's simple, understated and they're making a comeback! Newport is filled with mansions and beaches, you need a bow-tie to rock all the prep that Newport represents. When walking down Ocean Drive, you bet you're going to see some preppy Salve boys rocking a bow-tie. It's not only expected but it's encouraged!

Suspenders!

Walking along the Cliff Walk and don't wanna pull up your pants? No need, since Chuck loves to accessorize he just clips on these suspenders while he chases after Blair!

Slick Back That Hair, Bro

Well some heads of hair just have a mind of their own...and Chucks hair is always doing its own thing. Slick it back and let that Ocean Drive breeze mess it up a little!

Of course i'm not saying that all guys dress this way...however there is a pattern. The pink button down shirts and the Sperry's for all occasions. It's a very nice way to dress...it's preppy central!

Of course theres more than one way to dress in Newport. But if you wanna get the full essence of the preppy boy motif then these tips are key. Most guys in Newport dress to impress (don't lie guys, we've seen those Vineyard Vines shorts and button down shirts). If you're visiting Newport and are looking for a muse...then Mr. Bass is your guy!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
