Obviously, all this political talk is getting old and the hateful rhetoric is going too far. We can't necessarily stop talking about politics because that's what's going on in our world. Everyone is concerned for different reasons and may support different ideas. While there are these vast divides and political opinion differences, we cannot keep disagreeing in the way that we are. Democratic or republican, we are all Americans and human beings who deserve respect.
This concern came out in me especially when I saw a video of students protesting on a campus. I scrolled through the commentary and being a conservative community, I knew there would be some differing views of the protest. Instead of disagreeing or respectfully protesting about the protest, the commentary was absolutely disgusting. People actually suggested "running them over" and called them names like "entitled brats."
Viewers were upset about the protest because it was "whining," yet continued to whine themselves about whining. We live a country with freedom of speech. Those protestors were allowed to protest. They did so peacefully and not one sign in the crowd displayed a negative slur. The commenters were also allowed to speak freely, but they did so in such a hateful way.
This is happening with both political parties. To stop this divide, because we will never all have the same opinions about what is right, we need to disagree with respect.
When you disagree, do not personally attack someone. Attack the views, but do not attack the person with the views. Just because they don't see things the way you do, doesn't mean they deserve any less respect.
When you disagree, do not threaten or incite violence. Violence is never the answer to any issue.
When you disagree, you are more than welcome to speak up. However, try to disagree with some degree of respect.
