How To Be Successful | The Odyssey Online
Start writing a post

I am writing you this article in the dark on this subject. I too, am a lost college kid on a mission to obtain success. However, I have learned a few things so far throughout my short twenty years of life. I have learned that when you find something you are passionate about doing, you want to keep doing that one thing all the time. When you keep doing that one thing, you get better at it. When you get good at something, that gets recognized by others. You then gain success from doing what you love. Why not apply this to the real world?

In college, we are constantly worrying about whether or not we are doing the right thing. We are constantly worried about if we are studying the right subjects, if we are at the right schools, if we are doing the right activities. We try to please others and do what we think we are supposed to be doing. I advise you to let go of some of those worries and focus on what you like to do- and what you are good at. However, I cannot tell you that what you are doing is right. What I can tell you is that if you try and follow these steps, you will find success later on.

So here are a few of my bits of wisdom on how to be successful.

1. Drop every single want you have to make money.

Yes, I am aware that the goal of all this hard work is to make money. Slow down young one. We must remember that the reward may not come as quickly as we would like or thought. However if you keep working hard, the reward will soon follow.

2. Forget money exists

FORGET ABOUT MONEY. I know, this is hard. I know, you are broke. I KNOW, all you want is to afford your own boat and maybe a trip to Cancun every year. FORGET ABOUT ALL THAT. MONEY IS PAPER. PAPER. FORGET IT EXISTS

3. Think of what makes you happy

What makes you happy? Is it sports? Is it talking to people? Writing letters? Writing stories? Telling stories? Debating with others? Making art? Making music? Finding the latest fashion trends? Dealing with money? Dealing with numbers? Teaching others? What is it gosh darnet! Figure out what makes YOU happy (no, not what you think others would appreciate, it is about what YOU appreciate).

4. Apply what makes you happy to everyday life

So say you really like to make things. I mean like you are always inventing things all the time. Ok good. Now you have one thing you know you like to do. Now, apply that to everyday life. Entrepreneurship? Engineering? Maybe since you like to make things you would do well in either of these fields.

5. Ask yourself “How can I excel in the world by doing what makes me happy"?

Consider what you can do as a profession with your passion.

6. Make it happen.

Make it happen, go out and study your butt off, and work your way up to getting that job you’ve always wanted to do!

7. Success happens.

When you work hard, you will see results, working your way up the ladder. Maybe now you have gotten that dream job you have always wanted.

8. Oh look, what is that? Money I see?

Yes, it is money you see. Do you know how you obtained that money? You obtained that money by recognizing your strengths and weaknesses, and capitalizing on your strengths. You then worked hard in an area that makes you happy and that you enjoy doing. Happiness brings success. You succeeded in what you were doing, and from that you got paid. This is how you make money doing what you want. It may not be easy, and it is not quick money. But in the end, you are doing what you love, and that is what success is really about. So now I encourage you to go out there, find what makes you happy. No not what makes your parents happy, what makes YOU happy. Apply that to the world. This world needs passionate people doing what they love. Passion will bring you success and joy. So go out there, and get started!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
