How To Survive A Solo Road Trip

Road trips can be one of two things: boring or somewhat enjoyable. I love to make my road trips as enjoyable as possible. When you spend six hours each way going to and from school, you have to get creative with ways to enjoy yourself. You need a couple of items to help you survive the hours on the road. I never leave for a road trip without my cellular device, a charger for that device, CDs and an iPod, a bag of goldfish, red lipstick, sassy sunglasses, and a bottle of water. After you have the necessities, you can begin your long journey. Here are a few ways I keep myself entertained on my solo road trips.

I see how long I can go without stopping to use the restroom. You may be thinking, "But what about the bottle of water? Doesn't that make you have to go to the bathroom?" The answer is no. Why? Because I only drink the water if my throat is dry due to singing songs. You see, I try to make it to my destination as quickly as possible, which means that I cannot stop to use the restroom and, therefore, I avoid all drinks the entire day, which can lead to dehydration -- so be careful with that one.

I do not allow myself to skip any songs on my iPod. This game allows you to listen to songs that you might not have listened to in a while, and that you have forgotten you once loved. It is a great way to reminisce on your past. I try my hardest to mimic the voices of the singers on my iPod. This can be really fun because it causes you to get really emotionally invested in a song, and it is fun to see peoples' reactions if they pass you on the road and you are jamming out.

I use the time to call old friends, or family members I have not talked to in a while. It is a great way to get reacquainted with old friends because you actually have nothing else to do.

I make driving more enjoyable by wearing red lipstick and sassy sunglasses. A lot of people choose to dress in sweatpants and a large t-shirt, but my motto is, "The better you look, the better you feel," and everyone wants to feel great while driving, otherwise, it is miserable.

The last thing I do to make the hours bearable is eat hard candy. This keeps you focused and awake because if you aren't awake while eating hard candy, chances are you would choke and then wreck, and things would end badly. The candy forces you to be alert and ready. At least, it does for me.

I hope you find these tips helpful, and I hope your future journeys are enjoyable experiences!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
