How to Survive the Rest of the Semester

How to Survive the Rest of the Semester

Spring break is over, the semester is in high gear, and your motivation is at an all time low. Like seriously, you don't even have the ability to be stressed because you care so little.

While sitting on your couch and waiting the semester out is all you want to do, it's probably not the best option. There are those weird things called GRADES that can affect your entire life... Okay maybe not entire life, but they do have an impact.

So, here are some tips to help you muddle through your mid-semester lull.

1. Go for a walk.

When work is piling up it sounds like the last thing you should do, but really, how productive are you when you've been re-reading the same line 10 times? The weather's starting to get better, so stick in your headphones and take a lap around campus. Go at your own pace. This is also a great way to sneak in some people watching, which is all kinds of fun. It doesn't have to be long, just 10-15 minutes will do. Just get out of your own head for a bit and get a little cardio and fresh air in your life at the same time.

2. Find a puppy or a kitten or some kind of lovable animal.

Unless you're not a lovable animal kind of person, but seriously, who isn't? Interacting with a creature that's just happy you exist and want to play with them is such a great feeling. If you don't have access to one, just scroll through cute animal pictures and videos. Seeing their tiny little faces will fill your empty soul. And if that doesn't work...

3. Watch something that will make you feel all the happy feels.

Whether it's a sappy movie or a soldier homecoming video montage, just remind yourself that you can actually feel something other than stress or apathy. Cry it out if you need to. This can also be a great reminder that the future isn't completely bleak and the world is actually a good place! Pro tip: this is best done in your pjs with a giant jar of cheese puffs.

4. Creep really far back on yourself on Facebook.

And I'm talking about creeping way back to 2008. It will be hilarious to see all the gems hidden in your past status updates and pics. Not only will you remember the great stories behind it all, it'll really boost your mood to laugh at yourself and see how far you've come. Plus, it's an awesome reminder that if you can survive your days of heavy eyeliner and braces, you can survive anything. Seriously.

5. When all else fails, just give yourself something to look forward to.

Whether it's a little dinner outing with your friends or dropping by your hot TA's office hours, it's the little things that can give us the biggest boost. It'll drive you crazy to obsess over how far away summer is. Live in the moment and it will all seem okay.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
