Valentine's Day: the holiday meant for celebrating love, but is usually the bane of all singles' existence.
I've walked by so many people on campus this week complaining about Valentine's Day with comments along the lines of: "I can't believe I'm single on Valentine's Day again," "Can we just skip to February 15th already," and "I only have ten days left to find a boyfriend."
Personally, I'm not too bummed to be spending this Valentine's Day single. I always find myself insanely busy with classes and all of the activities I'm involved in, I'm glad I don't need to deal with the added stress of gifts, dates, and all that jazz.
Valentine's Day is a day of love, and most people immediately think of romantic love when they think of February 14th. What about self-love? Or friend love? Take the day to treat yourself and surround yourself with your friends and people you care about!
Instead of the dining hall, maybe splurge a little and order Panera, pizza, or something that makes you happy. Put on a face mask and your favorite music, movie, or tv show and take an hour to relax and unwind from all the outside stress you deal with on a daily basis. Spend a little me time in your bed with a good book if you're a big bookworm but never find the time in your schedule to read. If you're into going to the gym, get in a quick workout if you can; ideally in the morning to give you a boost of endorphins and start your day off on a positive note!
Call your family and friends from home and let them know how much you appreciate them. If you have access to a kitchen, bake some cookies or another treat and bring them to friends and neighbors. Sometimes the best thing is making someone else's day.
Treat yourself this Valentine's Day. You deserve it! Sometimes being single is just what you needed.
