I was not born into the Irish culture or traditions. I have had friends who were Irish and learned some things about being Irish but it was vaguely little to remember. For those of you who are Irish, celebrate to your heart's content during Saint Patrick's Day. As for the fellow non-Irish, here's some of the things that you might do during this time of year.
1. Wearing the "Kiss the Irish" or St. Patty's Themed Shirts
When I was growing up before St. Patrick's Day, I used to see stores lined up with the merchandise. Most of us are tempted to buy one or of them for themed parties or for the parades.
2. Eating out with Friends
One of the special days where there is a discount in most of every merchandise or diner for St. Paddy's Day and also an excuse to go all out on the delicious food.
3. Getting really wasted
Just another holiday to get totally drunk during the parade or party. Personally I feel many of us feel that St. Patrick's Day is the holiday were a lot of drinking happens and the close first is New Year's Day.
4. Knowing the Real Tradition
In America, we grow up with some of the fake traditions that are presented on St. Patrick's Day. For example, St. Patrick is not even remotely Irish and the short spelling of Patrick is restaurant which is short for Paddy not Patty.
5. Have some fun.
It is another holiday to enjoy; just have fun and make the most out of St. Paddy's Day.
