If you choose a game nearby then you can easily drive there after Thursday or Friday classes. I personally haven’t taken a Friday class in two years so I would leave Thursday so that I could go for the WHOLE weekend. Plus Thursdays are the most fun at any college anyways, so it’d be best to go Thursday night and return Saturday.
Create a road trip playlistYou’ll most likely be packed in a car with 3 or 4 friends and be bored out of your mind by the 2nd hour of driving. Create a great playlist for you and your friends to enjoy. Also, by making a playlist titled “Away Game Weekend” those songs will always remind you of how much fun you had taking a spontaneous weekend getaway. If you’re not good at finding music then try visiting 8tracks.com. They have the best playlists for any type of mood you are in.
Find cheap, but quality accommodation. When you’re with five drunken friends on a tailgate Saturday, the last thing you want to do is crash
on someone’s carpet. Hotels are too expensive, these days, and a friend you
know at the opposing team's school probably doesn’t have enough room for you and
all of your friends. Try booking an apartment or house on airbnb.com
for a cheap place to crash. There are instant booking options allowing
you to book at the last minute, like the procrastinator most of us college
students tend to be.
Go to the game. I never go
to the football games and truly enjoy tailgating followed by lying on a couch
with a big group of people watching the game. However, if you’re going to
an away game what’s the point in going if you’re not going to witness the game, firsthand. If you can, try and scalp some tickets in the student
section to meet some people who are probably doing the same thing.
Enjoy some famous
local grub. I don’t need to remind
everyone that I’m a foodie and that my
favorite thing to do is to try new restaurants. Most college towns have
genuine old restaurants that have been around for ages because of how good they
are. Do some research and eat at a great spot that you can brag to your
friends about.
Retain and remember. Enjoy your time, but
don't forget to apply what you learn. People have different chants and
cheers at each school and maybe you could teach your friends. Another thing to bring back would be new drinking games.
Whatever you're doing, be safe and have fun!
