Imagine a life lived like Joelle Fletcher, this season's Bachelorette. She’s beautiful, starring on television, and has 20+ men fighting for her love. She’s living the dream and looks perfect doing so. Oh, but apparently, she’s a little “naggy."
In last week’s episode, a group date was set up where one of the challenges was for the guys to propose to Jojo. Everyone’s favorite contestant (complete sarcasm), Chad, completed that challenge by simply saying, “Will you marry me?” When Jojo asked why he didn’t point out all the things he loved about her, he responded by saying she sounded a bit naggy.
I don’t know about you, but if someone tried to propose to me by telling me I nagged them, I would not be very pleased with them. Jojo, the other contestants and anyone watching the Bachelorette seem to agree with me. From the second Chad appeared on the show he was disliked by everyone. At the end of the first episode, I was 100 percent convinced he only stayed around because the producers found him entertaining. I mean, I still kind of think that, but I have to say, I like Chad’s mindset.
I know, it’s a very unpopular opinion. Chad is rude, stuck up and cocky, but he speaks the truth.
After the “naggy" incident, Chad defended himself by saying he couldn’t tell Jojo all the things he loved about her because he didn’t know what they were yet. At that statement, I practically jumped for joy, because finally, somebody gets it. I’m a big fan of "The Bachelor/Bachelorette," but I can’t get over the fact that the contestants believe their infatuation is real love from the very beginning. Chad understands that to fall in love with Jojo, he needs to learn all her flaws, the pros, and cons, all the little things that decide whether or not he wants to spend the rest of his life with her, and he knows that he can’t claim to love her before having time to discover these characteristics.
I’m not saying Chad is my favorite by any means (How can he compete with Jordan, or Luke?). He is definitely pretentious and churlish, but at least he doesn’t fall in love with every girl he goes on one date with. I think a lot of the contestants could probably take a page out of his book (but only one page, because Jojo probably doesn’t want every potential husband calling her a nag), and fall back from their preconceived perceptions.
So there, I said it. I like Chad’s thought process and I’m not ashamed of it. Good for you, Chad, for trying to figure out who Jojo really is before deciding she’s your soul mate. I’d be more than happy to see him off the show sooner, rather than later, but I’m glad he was around for now to provide some insight for anyone that believes they really love Jojo after spending a total of about 15 minutes with her.
