We are officially well into my favorite season of the year—"Bachelorette" season!
This season, 26 guys lined up to try and steal the heart of Jojo Fletcher, ABC’s latest bachelorette. As usual, there are more than a few guys that I’m sure Jojo would love to call her husband at the end of the show, which also means there has been plenty of drama. Given that this is "Bachelorette" norm, I have watched nearly every bachelorette experience many of the same things Jojo is experiencing this season. The jealousy, competition, and overall confusion that the men in the house bring is nothing short of dramatic, and viewers just can’t look away.
While every bachelorette handles things a little differently, there are some blaring lessons to learn from watching this show.
1. First impressions matter. They matter a lot.
After all, the last contestant that won the first impression rose ended up winning the entire show! No one wants his or her future husband/wife to think you’re a complete freak, so be genuine to who you are when making a first impression.
2. Give it your all, even if that includes your dignity.
I'm looking at you, Cupcake.
3. Juggling more than a few guys or girls sounds terrible.
This season, there have been threats of violence, physical altercations and total mental breakdowns. Naturally, all of this drama reverts back to Jojo, which appears to be completely stressed!
4. Be comfortable with who you are and what you do.
Even if that means that you’re job title is “dog lover” or “chicken enthusiast.” Embracing who you are shows confidence and self worth, which makes you a viable love interest for any bachelor or bachelorette.
5. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Sometimes, the most important thing is to laugh. If you don’t learn how to laugh at the little things, you could end up really unhappy in the future. It’s important to be able to differentiate the little things from the big things, so always make sure to have a sense of humor.
6. Rejection oftentimes leads you exactly where you need to be.
Every bachelor or bachelorette has been rejected by someone they could have seen themselves falling in love with, but that hasn’t stopped them from searching for “the one.”
7. Know your worth.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t worthy of love or affection. Take a lesson for Kaitlyn, who wouldn’t allow Ian to demean her in any way. She stood up for who she was and made no apologies for it.
8. Do it for the right reasons.
It is clear to see which contestants are in it for the fame and fortune. Typically, those are the relationships that fizzle out just a few months after the show ends. If you are serious about finding the one, make sure your mind and your heart are equally ready to find love.
9. Don’t settle with “comfortable.”
Love is scary! If you don’t take a chance, you could miss out on something great.
