Family, a small word that has so much meaning. Or as I like to say: Fam(ily). You turn to your family for everything. They help you when you need it and care for you. They are your shoulder to cry on and are so important in your life. Without family, life's meaning significantly decreases. As you grow older and go off to college, you begin to realize that being a family member doesn't always mean a blood-related person. Someone not even related to you has become your sister. Your college friends have become apart of your family.
It's strange to think that a group of people who were strangers six months ago are now closer to you than many friends from home. You found people who are as crazy as you are and people who don't judge you and accept you for who you are. Families definitely do not judge each other, no matter how ugly their snapchat was.
Your college friends are the first people you tell any big news to. The cute boy in your biology class asked for your number? Aced your midterm? Got a care package in the mail today? Your college group-chat is the first to hear it all.
Nothing screams family like family dinner. Every night, you meet in the cafeteria at the same time to sit and eat together. If someone can't make the set time, the time is changed because family dinner wouldn't be the same without someone.
Being away from your actual family while at college is hard, and you miss them terribly while you are away. You soon begin to realize that when you are home from college for breaks and weekends, you miss your college family terribly, too. It is hard going a few weeks without seeing them. Reunions with your college family are the best, and you always have so much to catch up on.
The best nights in college are the one spent with your college family. Who else could you stay up with until four in the morning with, gossiping and ordering pizzas? They are the ones who catch you when you fall. Your sisters always honestly tell you if that shirt makes you look fat, and they are the ones who will hold your hair for you. You love your college sisters just like your own sisters and couldn't imagine life without them.
So let your sisters know how much you appreciate them. Tell them you love them, and cherish the four years you have together before the real world begins.
