To the person who thinks gender is a scientific fact and that there are not, in fact, multiple genders. Tip number one: take an anthropology class. That's just a general life tip for living a well-educated life. An anthropology class is imperative to a rounded education, I feel so anyway. Sure, I'm definitely biased, I'm an Anthropology minor, but it's still a great class to have under your belt.
If you had really done your research, like you claim to have done, you would know that sex is a completely different concept than gender. Sex is a scientific fact, yes, you either have a penis or a vagina, that is your sex. You are born with one or the other. However, gender is not a scientific fact, it is a matter of opinion; social behaviors determined by society. Then, there is even a difference when it comes to sexuality, that being your sexual preference.
All of this information is just surface research, if you divulge deeper into the wonderful sphere of information that is google, you will discover that different cultures have different genders, yes that means more than one gender. You see, gender is a cultural construct, it is defined by the people experiencing the culture, by those who have their own beliefs and rituals that help shape their perspectives on gender.
In some indigenous societies there are "two spirits", which lead to them to having three to five genders. These 'two spirits' tend to be men who, for any period of time, take on what our culture would consider woman gender roles. For example, cooking, weaving, and even using makeup. This is more of a fun fact to support my point. Sure, you might not agree with what I am saying, but it's true.
I'm not writing this article to 'show you up' or out of any sort of rudeness, but because I don't want you circulating incorrect, and what could come off as offensive, information.
Sex is a biological fact, yes that is true. However, gender is a different term, referring to what you identify as. In our culture, yes, we typically only acknowledge two genders, but not everybody does, so stop assuming they don't exist. Do you have to like it or agree with those who identify as they do? No, of course not. You have free will, you have your own opinions. Just understand that gender is different from sex and there are not only two genders. Perhaps in your mind there are, but in reality, there aren't.
I know there are some people out there who get annoyed with all this talk of gender and the LGTBQ+ community, but in the end, the answer to everything is acceptance and love. Understand that there is more than one gender and don't judge others for their beliefs and cultures. That's not your job.
