Throughout our lives, most of us seek that significant someone with whom we can share our love, worries, happiness, sadness, and fun. It is not easy, but when you have found that person, all that waiting time was worth it.
You might have to go through more than one relationship or encounter in order to finally reach that soul mate, and the process does take a while. By the time you have found him or her, you will realize that there are so many things about that person that you love, and it just feels right. You will reach a point where you stop looking and just want to focus on that special person. They will be the first thing you think of when you wake up every day, and the last person you dream of as you drift to sleep. But how do you know he or she is really the one?
Chemistry. No matter how long you have been together, the passion between you has never faltered. No matter if it is the first month, year, or decade, the couple should continue to feel the desire for each other, every day.
Unease. You might find this a little weird. Usually, people would say it is good to be comfortable with that significant someone, and I do agree -- to an extent. No matter how long you have been together, there should always be a small sense of unease between you two. A few couples I have encountered tend to get very comfortable after a period into the relationship, and they no longer feel the need to put in as much effort as when they first met. That can kill a relationship. If your loved one still tries to impress you and speaks to you in a respectable, but fun way, then that is wonderful! There should still be butterflies in each other's stomach, occasionally.
Happy. When you love something, you want that person to be happy. Your actions and goals begin to focus on their happiness just as much, or even more, than your own. A relationship takes work, and requires a lot of mutual commitment. If one person is not as happy as the other, then there is something that must be fixed.
Work it. No matter how far apart you two are, or how complicated an issue has became, if you have found that person, you should be able and willing to work things out. No matter what, you should be able to communicate and try to improve yourselves, and the relationship.
There are many more characteristics that indicate if you are in the relationship with the "one." The list is endless, but really, it is you who can name them all because that special person has so many more quirks, and perfect imperfections that you love. Therefore, really enjoy the time period you get to spend with them.
