How I've Grown Through Life And Since The Start Of College

Sometimes I sit back and question how I have gotten to where I am at today. I can tell you that four years ago, I would have NEVER imagined my life to be where it is today.

There are so many different paths I could have taken in the past, and each one of those would have lead me to a different kind of life. I could have pursued sports out of high school, I could have chosen a different university, I could have chosen a different major and my life would look entirely different.

One of the biggest changes for me from high school to college was leaving all of my athletics behind. For as long as I can remember, I have always competed in some kind of sport at different parts of the year. Moving on from that was honestly a breath of fresh air.

I all of a sudden had all of this free time on my hands. Rather than having to go to practice every afternoon for hours on end, I got to go home and get things done.

College also brought on a whole new load of people. I am always going to have my childhood friends, but I have been introduced to some of the most amazing people. Some of the people that have come into my life have changed me for the better and have helped me learn.

I mentioned majors earlier, and it has changed since I started college. I started my college life with the hopes of getting a degree in education. A couple semesters later, my goals have changed quite a bit. I am now pursuing a degree in public relations.

That decision alone has brought a new outlook on life for myself. My goals and dreams have changed so much. The change in major was honestly one of the best decisions I could have made for myself. I feel like changing into public relations created a new, more positive outlook for me.

My biggest realization, which I hope that I never lose, is that I have to continue to learn through life. Since I have kept that little gem in the back of my mind, I have lived my life in a more productive way. I walk into difficult situations with the thought of powering through it and learning from it, rather than just wanting to make it go away.

It is amazing how life can change depending on the choices that are made. I look back on my life, especially the past couple of years, and see how all my decisions have lead me to wear I am today. Not every one was productive, and I know I will make some questionable ones in the future, but I am ready to keep growing. Let's keep learning through this life!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
