Before we go to college, or even while we are in college, we hear the horror stories of some of the roommates people get during their college years. These stories can be mild or terrible but either way, people can be really disappointed with who they got put in a room with. Sharing space with someone is not always the easiest task in the world, especially if you had never done so before but open-mindedness is definitely needed in this situation.
Enough about other people and their roommates, my first college roommate is the best college roommate out there. I didn’t know what to expect when I met my roommate because we had only texted before we moved to school and the first few weeks were difficult because we were still getting to know each other. It is a little weird to live with someone you don’t know at all but over time you begin to settle in. I learned though that my roommate is really easy to live with and living with someone who has a similar personality to yours is extremely helpful.
Helpful in what ways you ask? Well, for starters, my roommate is understanding of how important the necessity of coffee is in the morning and also that we do not talk until coffee happens, we can text, though. My roommate knows the importance of schoolwork and the importance of procrastination. She also understands the importance of food, especially pizza, and how needed pizza Friday nights are after a long week of classes.
While you do not necessarily have to be friends with someone to live with them, it makes it way more enjoyable. I’m lucky enough that my first roommate is also my friend and we can go out together. I’m lucky to have a roommate that I can vent to about all the things that annoy me or that I can just hang out with whenever I want because we live together.
While there are many, what I would call, roommate qualities about my roommate, she is also just a good college friend to have. Living about 4 hours away from someone and not seeing them for an entire break, summer being months on end, but knowing that everything will be exactly the same when you go back to live is a friend more than a roommate. Many people change roommates after the first year of college. While I will have more roommates, I’m lucky enough that I still get to live with the one I already had as well.
In conclusion, I want to thank my roomie for how awesome she is. Thank you for putting up with the times I’ve had way too much caffeine and go crazy or the times that I get really annoyed and rant about it for hours on end. Also thank you for living with me because we both know I can’t get Leonard enrolled at college to be my roommate. Thanks for being excited about door tags, pizza and doing nothing with me, I cannot wait for another few years living together! (Unless you get rid of me, of course.)
