How it Feels When I don't Hear From You

For the record it doesn't feel good

How it Feels When I don't Hear From You

One of the many problems with being human is the need for other humans. This isn't always an issue; people in your life can create meaningful bonds and relationships, be the cause of a lot of joy, and help you to be an overall more happy and altruistic person. However, when we open ourselves up to people, we begin to get attached. As a result, when we don't hear from friends, family, significant others, or pets in a while, a rush of conflicting emotions run through our heads. Here is what goes on in my head when I haven't heard back from you in a while:

1. They must be really busy

Really, really, really busy. Saving the world or something.

2. Why are they too busy for me?

They must have a better, funnier, smarter, replacement that they are spending all their mental energy on.

3. They must hate me

Cause why else would 2 hours pass without a word?

4. Why do they hate me?

They don't actually hate me... I hope.

5. I must be horrible

I will just be over here holding my life together.

6. I am not horrible, I am awesome

If you can't see the good in me you can just step aside.

7. They must be horrible

I am too fabulous to be ignored.

8. They aren't horrible, they are amazing

Maybe they are too fabulous to love me. (Nah, that can't be it)

9. Self-loathing

This phase only lasts about a minute mom (don't worry).

10. Why self-loathing? They should be begging to hear from me.

Because as we discussed before, I am fabulous.

11. If they text me, I will ignore them

I will have willpower this time.

12. They are probably not ignoring me

Why would the people I love ignore me?

13. Repeat steps 1-12

Because if at first you don't succeed...

14. Yay! They texted me back

Yes! I am fabulous and they see it.

15. Why did I text them back so fast?

Couldn't I have waited just a minute? Make them miss me a little

16. Gosh they are so great

I know why I keep them around.

17. I am surrounded by the best people

Because lets be serious, the people that matter will never ghost on you for long. And I was probably only overreacting in the first place.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
