The Housing Games

May the odds be ever in your favor.

The Housing Games

Is it really that time of the year again already? Yeah, it's already time to register for housing. Some would even go to say that finding housing is comparable to the "Hunger Games." Housing registration isn't only and time-consuming and annoying, but it also takes over your life. It also serves as a little reminder that finals and summer are right around the corner. I think we can all agree that registering for housing is one of the most difficult tasks us college students must take on. Do you want to live on campus? Off campus? Who will your roommates be? Whether we like it or not, these big questions all must be answered in a very short period of time.

Whether you want to live with the same roommates or find new ones, it can be quite stressful. There is nobody holding your hand to tell you everything is going to be okay; this is real life. On campus housing fills up really fast and off campus housing is an extremely time consuming and difficult process. Zillow can either be your best friend, or in some cases, your worst enemy. If you are a college student who has previously gone through the process of searching for on and off campus housing, you will be able to relate to some of these struggles. If you are currently a college student that is on the hunt for a new place to live you can and will most likely experience a few of these moments during your search! Good luck!

When you go on Zillow and find nothing in your price range.

When you frantically message a bunch of people on Facebook asking what their housing plans are.

When you discover that nobody else has housing plans either, and you aren't alone.

When your friends all have housing plans already and you have no idea what you are doing.

When the landlord of the house you want notifies you that they are "going in another direction" and picking another group of people to live in the house.

When you don't get the dorm you wanted during housing registration.

When your friends all brag about how excited they are about their future roommates and your still stuck searching on Zillow.

When you finally find a solid group of roommates.

And a place to live with them.

When your housing problems are finally solved and life can resume.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
