Hope For The Wild Child

You don't have to live in the darkness.

I know a girl whose heart is wild. Her spirit is free and her dreams can’t be tamed. Her actions reflect her ambitious heart but her heart is still searching for a home. Her life is so full but her soul is so lonely. She can’t find the answer to the void, so she searches.

She looks in places of life and light, but the light is true darkness. She clings to people and things around her, only grabbing them to see them drift away. Her smile comes for a time but it quickly fades. She has everything she thinks she wants, but she still searches.

She searches and finds happiness, but she doesn’t know it’s temporary. The feelings, the desires, the people and the life quickly fade and it takes the happiness with it. Time after time she’s left empty, but she doesn’t see the pattern. So she still searches.

I wish I could tell her to stop searching.

You’ve been looking for light in the darkness, only to find it burns out quickly. You’ve been searching for happiness in a boy and friends, but they’ve let you down time and time again. You’ve lost all hope because your eyes are facing down.

Sister, look up.

The real Light is shining through the darkness, not in. This Light won’t blow out, it’ll burn forever. It’ll lead you and guide you, because it comes from a Father. He’ll hold you like no man ever could. He’ll take you places you’ve never dreamed of going, and your life will show others the sweetness of His love. He’ll fill the void in your heart and heal your loneliness. He’ll light up your life, and then you’ll truly be free.

The catch is, you can’t live in both worlds. You can’t keep searching, spirit free and heart wild, looking to be filled by the world. Accept the grace of God and know He will fill you until you overflow. His grace is sufficient to save you, and His love is sufficient to hold you.

Stop keeping one foot in the world while taking the other one to church. Stop trying to balance your worldly life with your Heavenly Father. He lords over all your life or He lords over none. The choice is yours, and I earnestly pray you choose Him. I pray you choose hope. I pray you choose life through your Heavenly Father. I pray you’ll choose to see the Light that shines through the darkness. You don’t have to live in this darkness you’ve stayed in for so long. Life is so much more than that. He’ll light up your life, and you’ll never go searching again.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
