Natural disasters are inevitable; they are uncontrollable and create terror in the process. Although such negative connotations are tied to the horrific events, it's comforting to know that not everything about it is treacherous. In fact, some magical things happen. When facing evil, it's beautiful to see people of communities and nations come together to fight the battle head on. Strangers offer hands to others in complete selfless acts in hopes to help others through dark times. People are offering personal belongings to those who have lost everything just so they aren't left feeling like they have absolutely nothing; volunteers stand outside in unsuitable conditions helping those in trouble, even if its just comforting them and giving them water.
This country has been at bat when it comes to the current presidential election. This candidacy has divided the nation in half, creating fights rather than conversations and hatred instead of understanding. But regardless of those circumstances, citizens are coming together in even the most simple of ways like sharing comforting words and putting the circumstances in their prayers. You don't have to be on the battleground to make in impact on the war. Its the people behind the scenes that can make all the difference: the receptionists working tirelessly accepting 9-1-1 calls, firefighters suited and on-call waiting to rescue victims from disaster, and even just a neighbor on speed-dial to make sure that you make it through the storm OK. When we put love first, we are able to conquer so much more and feel more accepted than hatred can ever bring.
It's a fact in life that we are unable to control everything that affects us. We can prepare as much as we can but there is no telling what the future holds. As Winston Churchill once said, “when there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.” So come together, join hands, and prove that nothing can break this country. After Hurricane Matthew, it's safe to say that even when it seem like things might not turn out alright, we can have an affect on the problem. We prepared for a potential category five hurricane to the best of our ability, and although damage has been done, we avoided potential utter disaster. By uniting, preparing, and helping one another, we were able to prove that even in the midst of despair, we are able to make it out on top. Of course not everything is perfect, but by coming together, we justify our power as a country and hope for a brighter future.
